How can i be happy like i am on opiates?

I love taking opiates for recreational use every once in a while. Its great fun but only if you're responsible about it and safe. I use them maybe 2-3 times a month and sometimes not at all. I am in total control of my habits and have been addicted to weed ironically but that is it and i have overcome it ages ago and have learned so much about myself and how to control my ego and mind when i must. But i just love how happy and optimistic i am when i do them, i can see why it would be addictive. However, im wondering if techniques like meditation and healthy eating and excercise (which i am doing all but meditation at the moment) and just positive thinking in general will get me the same outcome of thought? I really want to be that happy all the time. And im never really depressed but the level of happiness i get from them is what i think everyone should be like. Im starting to meditate and think more positively than usual. Any other ideas?

Please do not criticize me on my habits because i believe that responsible and safe use of recreational drugs is okay as long as it doesnt become a habit and doesn't affect your day to day life or your goals / pursuits and work / school. Which it doesnt for me. Im not corrupted by the governments totalitarian view on recreational substances like most people are and i dont want to hear about that argument. I just want to know about any other ways to stay extremely happy. Like having a girlfriend as well. thats another good example.

The reason opiates are so addictive is it is very difficult to mimic that euphoria and pleasant state of mind once you have experienced their effects. Exercising is a good way to experience natural endorphins. Yoga and meditation can help. Some people experience euphoria from spiritual experiences.

As you are probably aware, though, the happiness and optimism you feel when high on opiates is not really a normal state of mind for most people, especially not to that degree. That's why people get addicted to drugs, because it is easier not to feel the sadness and pessimism. You have to realize that it's not real happiness, because opiates numb emotional pain as well as physical pain. And when they wear off, the pain often seems worse than before, which makes them even more addictive.

So what I'm saying is I don't think that constant happy feeling is achievable without drugs; therefore, people are driven to use the drugs again because it is the only thing that makes them feel that way. Be careful!

Alcohol is a good substitute, and legal, too.

Here's the irony: I used to feel depressed because of my shyness. I finally met some people. Ordinarily I would be too shy to even try to talk with them, but I one night decided to drink heavily (for the first time) so it would put me at ease.

Anyway, I found it pointless, later on, and a waste of liquor to drink by myself. It would make me more boisterous and outgoing, but it would also wear off. So, I would save it only for when I was around people.

If you think about how odd it is to think about your nerves all the time and live for them even when no one is around, it kinda puts it all into perspective.

(I see people gave me two thumbs down, thinking that I have no idea about the stuff, but I actually count and dispense opiates every day, in pharmacy.)

well opiates make you feel that way because they are opiates

I think the only way you will feel that way naturally is maybe with some self hypnosis or TM, or any type of deep meditation and even then I don't think you get close unless you practise for years

Also marathon runners experience a runners high....not sure how this works

You need to learn better coping skills. Opiates are the worst drugs to get involved with. They have the worst come-downs, and have the lowest tolerance levels.

It is a sick high, if you like that escape and choose it over a natural life free from the pain and frustration of substance abuse...then you will be a prisoner to it.

Buy the Narcotics Anonymous Big Book, and read examples of M.D.'s, professionals and average joes who have lost so much from dope. I wish you well.

Yes, I do have some ideas for you.

Please......GET HELP.

Narcotics Anonymous is FREE and it really would help you immensely. And once you've been going to meetings for a few months you could look at what you wrote tonight and you'll be absolutely HORRIFIED at what you wrote and actually BELIEVED.

Best wishes. I really do hope you get help.

**I wrote this to you with complete sincerity----not criticism.
And you are only 16??

Make sure you are getting enough essential fatty oils. These are the good fats like in fish and flax seed. I really recommend taking flax seed oil regularly. Also, a little dark chocolate with it might help.

Find music that absolutely makes you lose yourself in it. There are certain songs that just make me so happy. I take darvocet once in a while for pain, and I know what you mean about feeling good on that kind of thing. I'm sure darvocet is quite mild compared to what you have had, but for me, it really made me feel so good! But I don't have a habit of it - I only take it for pain.

But, knowing the feeling I get from darvocet - I can say that there are a few things which can duplicate that feeling naturally. But it takes a lot of work. It is a combination of things: exercise, meditation, a positive outlook (the most important), a good diet, and peace of mind which comes from knowing you are doing the right things in life.

A walk in the woods, preferably near a water source is also wonderful.

I wish you the best with this! I know what you mean.

Heavy duty exercise will give you a high comparable - but not exactly like opiates. Nothing natural that I know of can give you the same high as opiates. But strenous exercise is a close second. I know this from personal experience.
