Are opiates ( such as morphine) the most efficient all purpose pain-killer, or do synthetics (hydromorphone)?

do a better job?

Hi.
Opiates is a pretty large world...heroin, base opium tar , morphine sulfate, codeine..which turns to opium in your body...
To the question......... There are some opium deviates that slow down the bodies functions...respiration, heart et al. Some that make you so oblivious to pain, thus acting as a pain medication. The rub is that the overdose ratio is 1 to 1...if you are used to a certain dose and you take one extra dose (OD)...whereas with barbiturates the ratio is 10 to 1, so it takes 10 of your usual dose to possibly (OD). Sorry that I have not researched the synthetics ratio's. Bye the bye.........A dear friend who was a merchant marine for 45 years...a ships pilot......said to me....don't go to Algiers outside of New Orleans or the opium den's in Calcutta...this fellow had gone to everywhere on the globe...except Tibet because the Chinese wouldn't let him go....these are the same folk's who produce "China White". I know that real opium is a dangerous road to walk. Don't know any more than the average Joe blow....
If the real question is, "I want to be out of pain forever, opium is the rather civilized way of trying to leave this physically debilitating pain. Soft and somewhat tranquilly.
Hope I didn't write too much...and I don't endorse for anyone other then themselves to make these decisions
There's a lot more to be said, but enough is enough....

Morphine type painkillers don't actually "kill" pain. They work in your brain and change your perception of pain, but they don't get rid of the pain. The pain is still there...you just don't give a darn.

Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) like Ibuprofen, and analgesics (like Tylenol) actually do "kill" the pain.

Opiates do a damn good job, but have obvious problems. It depends more on where the pain is as to what makes the best pain killer. Sometimes other techniques work better (i.e. epidurals).

rhubarb3something is right plus... morphine is not advisable to be given unless then pain is unbearable like cancer

I think the synthetics work better, my husband had his back fused which is VERY painful and the only that worked were the synthetics.

all of it will make you throw up and loopy, dont take it unless you are in SEVERE pain. taking them just for fun is so stupid

yeah like he said. morphine is supposed to make you feel better not take it away.
