Withrawing from opiates while taking antidepressants...?

A friend of mine got prescribed NaSSA (remeron) but hes been taking oxycodone for breakthru pain but hes been taking bout 65mg/day....he neglected telling his doctor because i guess hes afraid of "getting cut off", but hes slowly tapering off. Is this a bad combination of meds for him?

only his doctor could answer this. If he (the doctor) is any good he won't get cut off but tapered off in the correct manor. I think it is important to tell the doctor tho, cause he could be doing something real bad to his vital organs. However i do know alot of people who take anti-depressants and strong pain killers on prescription so i don't think they interact badly, but I'm no doc!!

Not necessarily. You may take some of those medications together without hurting yourself. The best way to do it is to be honest with the doctor so that he can tell him if it is alright or not. Opiates are a bugger to get off of. If he really wanted off of the Oxy's there is a drug that a doctor can prescribe called Seboxin that weans you off safely and without withdrawel. Your friend is probably scared to death to tell the doctor the truth because he wants the oxy's so badly. Tell him about the Seboxin and let him know that it exists to help him out. I have breakthrough pain also but I used the Seboxin to detox. I never got ill or shakey!!!!! It is like a miracle to those who can't get off of the Opiates by themselves. He may not think so but he is killing his kidneys with the oxy's so he should try to get off of them and just go with something like Vicodin ES to help him out. I hope that I helped some. Good Luck
