Methadone vs other opiates? |
Have been on methadone for 1 year and my doctor said something about switching me to another pain killer how long will i have to be off the methadone for the other meds to start working? They will start working immediately, however the methadone will have raised your tolerance levels pretty high and you not get much of an effect if any from the other painkillers. Methadone is one of the strongest opiates out there. It will take about four or five days to get the methadone mostly out of your system so that it is not blocking the other meds from working. That is why methadone is used for opiate withdrawal and such: it will block other opiates because of the cross tolerance and you cannot take enough of the other opiates because your opiate receptors are already filled from the methadone. |
