scenerio 34 y.o with stage IV vulvar ca with mets to pelvic lymph nodes, doulbe dosing with radiation and chemotherapy, what is life expectancy ? ALl I have come up with is 62% down to 20 % with the pelvic lymph nodes involved. PLeas would like honest factual responses. Statistics do not apply to individuals . . because too many factors come into play . . including age, overall health of patient, and the patients individual chemical response to treatment. So, absolutely no one can say with any certainty what someones life expectancy will really be even a doctor. That is why you see over and over again someone say, "Well I was told I had terminal cancer over ten years ago . . and look at me now . . I proved the doctors wrong." It happens frequently. So, ignore the statistics and concentrate on finding the best possible treatment for the condition. That's why you can't find any 'honest' factual responses . . because they don't exist . . cancer progression or remission is unique to each individual. The prognosis of vulvar cancer shows overall about a 75% five year survival rate, but, of course, individually affected by many factors, notably stage and type of the lesion and age and general medical health. Five-year survival is down to about 20% when pelvic lymph nodes are involved but better than 90% for patients with stage I lesions. Thus early diagnosis is imperative. |
