Is it True That Omega 3 Fatty Acids Are Being Used Successfully For The Treatment Of Bi-Polar Disorder?

I have bi-polar disorder and have been taking Lamotrigene for almost a year. It has helped me with depression, but my doctor is taking me off of it because I am afraid of the side effects (someone in my town got Steven Johnson's Symdrome). I am cautious about taking meds. Four people in my family are being treated for bi-polar and we are all on different medications. I am afraid to take meds, but I am more afraid of not taking them. While reading about bi-polar, I read some articles about the Omega 3 positive responses.

True it IS, so far... The Trials are still preliminary & underway, so it may BE awhile before new Meds are available for Drs. to prescribe to people like yourself... In the MEANTIME, hang in there- & stick with whatever your Doctor suggests... Better days may be coming... :)

Though is not indicated; can't hurt to try.
But don't get off your prescribed meds. and ask your Dr. about it.
Don't think could hurt you.

Omega 3 is a miracle! Take the supplements and eat lots of salmon...your mind and your skin will thank you!

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are helpful in depression. They are needed for normal development and functioning of the brain. Every living being and cell in the body needs EFAs. However, your nutritional and supplement regime requires more than just EFAs.

Vitamin B complex is excellent for stress and depression. If depression is sever you can get injections. The Amino Acid L-Tyrosine is essential as well. L-Tyrosine alleviates stress by boosting production of adrenaline and raises dopamine levels, which influences moods. Zinc is deficient in people with depression and it is responsible for keeping the immune system healthy. A Naturopath and Nutritionist can help with all of this.

Sounds like a hereditary thing but, you should still focus on your foods. Depression is sometimes caused by food allergies. Or you could have heavy metal intoxication? You need to cleanse and balance your body so--water, fruits and veggies (raw is best), and regular elimination, clean blood, exersise and yoga. And the little things help with your mood too, like walking in the sunshine every day.

A friend of mine was on meds for a few years and when she decided to stop taking them she had a real hard time coming off of them--went f&%#ing mental--her emotions were way up and way down. Regular yoga is what got her through it and it took months. If you are suicidal okay, meds may get you through the next 6mths-1year but, doctors push meds. I think its far more important to strive for physical, mental, spiritual health, to intimately know yourself. Meds "patch" your issues and add toxins to your system.

It is true.

Omega 3 fatty acids in the form of fish oil were responsible for me overcoming anxiety & depression. In fact, it was the only thing that had any real affect on me. Everything else I had tried, including prescription meds, didn't help worth a hoot. Check out this study on fish oil for bipolar http://www.finallysomethingworked.com/fi...

Good luck dude.
