Pros and cons of fish oil for omega-3 fatty acids?

I was considering takeing fish oil pills for the DHA they produce to help improve my brain function. Ive been depressed and rether unfocused for a while now but thats beside the point im beeing treated for both already. Can any one whos takeing it as a supliment tell me some of the benifits theve seen? And besides thining the blood witch can cause bleeding what are some of the other negative side effects?

Fish oil thins your blood and lowers your blood pressure a bit if it is too high and also reduces the chances of getting a blood clot which could cause a stroke or heart attack. It is also supposed to slow down brain deterioration and improve brain function.

Mercury levels in fish oil vary depending on the brand that you get and some brands are guaranteed to be absolutely safe and have actually been mercury tested.

Fish oil can give you a fishy smell problem but you can get odourless fish oil for a higher price.

The blood thinning effect could also increase your chances of getting a haemorrhagic stroke but such strokes are roughly ten times less common than strokes resulting from blood clots

mercury contamination.

Omega 3's do not thin your blood in the way a drug does. Instead they provide the materials which your correctly functioning cells use to properly modulate the consistency of your blood. It's more of a modulation effect that a direct manipulation effect.

Because most modern diets are heavy in Omega 6, which does promote clotting, increasing Omega 3 is going to provide significant benefit.

I don't really know of any cons of fish oils except you want to take one that is easily absorbed because the one side effect is the after taste which is killer. My doctor finally found one that I can tolerate. Metagenics makes it....EPA - DHA and is great. I take 6 a day and I definitely recommend everyone to take them.
