My father continues to refuse his phys and occupational therapy. How can we convince him. He's always 'tired

My father has some dimentia now due to a surgery. He's now in rehabilitation, but always refuses therapy. He respects doctors, but lately has turned ugly towards all nurses. He continues to refuse therapy saying he's tired. One more time, and medicare will kick him out. Any ideas? We are desperate, if he doesn't try, we'll lose him mentally and physically. There's got to be a way. He is scared he'll black out again, and there's no solution to that for now. Has anyone run into a similar sitation? We haven't lost hope.

Keep in mind he has had two surgeries in the past month or so (to clear a cortid/and abdominal aneruism) both supposedly successful. There are no signs of stroke. He was in the hospital for about 3 weeks and now in rehabilation (the docs say if he puts in the work he can go back home). But at this point if he doesn't, he'll probably drift away and pass away. I don't want this to happen. He is very stubborn and runs his own show. Any ideas (we've suggested him speaking to a doctor, the benefits of saving money according to Medicare rules, scheduling the PT and OT in a timely manner for him)

any ideas are appreciated

I can certainly relate and sympathize with you. My late husband had a stroke and was both mentally and physically challenged. He was sent to a nursing home from the hospital on doctor's orders. He would not cooperate with the therapists and, therefore, lost the ability to walk. After a year or so, his mind begin to get better but he still would not do the therapy. I never lost hope but did realize that it was going to be a long hard journey. Don't give up; just keep loving him and try to help him. Bless you.
