Does OT(occupational therapy) apply only to children or also for adults?

Occupational therapy applies to children as well as adults.Infact i would say an otist works in N.I.C.U ( for neonates), in paediatrics( for small children n youngsters) , in adult setups, in geriatrics( for elders) etc. An otist covers up all the stages of life. Some of the fields in which Otists work are - orthopaedics, neurology, paediatrics, surgery, medicine, rheumatology, industrial rehabilitation, mental health, vocational training, geriatrics, cardio-respiratory etc.The main aim of OT is to make an individual as independent as possible by using ' purposeful activities' n not just exercises.

occupational therapy is just like physcial therapy except it helps you beable to do your job again.

example: if your job was to type all day on the computer then the occupational therapist would give your exercises to do so you can achive the ability to do that job.

If your a child with a job them I guess you could use occupational therapy but physical therapy is what they would probley get.

Please see the fact sheet I linked below.

Occupational therapists work with both children and adults. It does not have to be related to job skills -- the therapist plans and delivers treatment programmes to help the child/adult regain strength and learn (or re-learn) skills to do activities of daily living. That may be basic needs like washing themselves, getting dressed, feeding themselves. It may be to improve fine motor strength and coordination -- for writing, typing, sewing, doing buttons, etc. OTs can address many areas.

Some schools have an OT come see children on site. Or the child may have to go to a clinic. It might depend whether the child's needs were medical or developmental.

An Occupational therapist would work on children mostly for developmental disabilities/delays, ie - down's syndrome, fragile x syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism. etc, etc

An occupational therapist would work with an adult for any disability that interferes with their daily living skills. This could be due to a developmental delay as a child, an illness, or a disease. Again, anything that would cause an impairment with their Independence.

Just remember that an Occupational Therapist focuses on Activities of Daily Living (adl's) within physical, psychological, and social areas of a persons life. This is from the age span of birth to death.
