Any good sites on physiotherapy / occupational therapy / rehabilitation of patients after broken hips? |
I'm not looking for theories or studies etc. Eighty-seven-year-old grandma fell, and fractured her femur. Has had internal fixation. Hoping for nice diagrammatic instructions to help family to care and help her learn to walk and everything again. Yes, she has been seen by a physiotherapist. But I think extra written info would be good too - aid in comprehension and assimilation and all that.... Also welcome any other useful tips... A search for hip fractures can turn up a lot of websites, and it can be difficult to know where to find valid information. Here are some good sources regarding hips and hip fractures. Best wishes for you and your grandmother. With this type of repair (open reduction internal fixation) generally there are no precautions other than what the individual can tolerate. Sometimes the doc gives a weight bearing status, but most of the patients I have treated have not had any restrictions. Usually, it hurts to stand, roll over in the bed, sit up, and bending over to dress and bathe. The more she gets used to getting up and around (if she is ambulatory) the quicker she will recover. The longer she is allowed to stay in bed or sedentary while being catered to will hinder her recovery. Good luck |
