Does anyone think that there are better treatments/ therapies/support/help for people in the u.s for people?

with borderline personality disorder than there is in the uk?

it said in the uk website ' mind' that services for bpd are not readily available because of the controversy surrounding bpd.

is it like that in the u.s? or do people there get proper, thorough care & treatment?

it seems as though they do from reading us websites about borderline personality disorder.
here is the uk website ' mind ':

http://www.mind.org.uk/Information/Bookl...

seems less thorough and giving more a bleak prognosis than the us websites.
here is a u.s site:

http://www.bpdresourcecenter.org/what_tr...

can you spot the difference or is it just me?

im 30 with BPD...ive been offered psychotherapy but my psychiatrist wont perscribe meds because he said there addictive...im not sure what form the psychotherapy will take yet because i havent been.
they offered occupational therapy to help me get to therapy. but thats it

thats my treatment defined.
i feel they should be being more thorough with me...i should be getting more.....having blood tests done etc.

im not sure. what do you think?

There are many websites out from u.k. and us and they are all different. The debate of whether medication works has been out for long time. It works for some people and sometimes even with medication the person never heals completely. I don't think you have an actual need for medication. Your problems mainly comes from the abuse and abuse can make people crazy so go on the www.alice-miller.com website and learn more about how that happens. And often medication numbs your ability to feel which is what you need to do in order to heal. in your case i'm strongly against medication. Like you have problem getting out of your apartment and i think that it has more to do with psychological reasons. You need to heal, face the truth, and re-program yourself, unlearn things and relearn new things.

tons of stuff here

start by exploring www.medlineplus.gov links to a gazilion other things NAMI is a major mental health site.

treatment here in the US is kinda hit and miss someplaces offer very good mental health facilities and options and some places seem to be in the dark ages when it comes to treatment
when it comes to BPD you will find many doctors will say the same thing as the one you went to in the uk and others will offer meds..
however my understanding is that there is no acually med for that diagnosis and that therapy has shown the best results

also there is no need for blood test as BPD is not a chemical imbalance it is a thinking disorder which is why therapy is best for it

well there is a class i went to called: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy or DBT it is an 8-12 week course you go to once a week for and hour and a half...it helps you retrain how you think about things-people usually need to take it more than once to really get the concept down

***there are no medications thate help people with this disorder -just therapy

google it
good luck

Thats b/c the Uk is more advanced than the US. Meds aren't the answer. At best they will just cover up your symptoms like a band aid and at worst you'll wind up with long lasting side effects. The best thing to do is to work out your problems. And there should be controversy about the BPD diagnoses b/c it is a label and a bleak one at that. All it does is make the patient feel helpless about their current situation and allows them to use that label as a crutch and an excuse for their maladaptive behaviors. If you want to feel better you should work on viewing the issues in your life and becoming cognizant of what goes on around you and in your mind and body. BPD is the symptom of a larger issue. Try not to hang so much on the label.

I know what I said sounds kind of tough but I was diagnosed with BPD also and have been through many medications and hospitalizations and all different types of therapy. For me, bpd was a false diagnoses. I was able to overcome the seemingly impossible and I feel it is wrong for a therapist to burden a patient with such a bleak label.

Many people in the US get very poor care for many different illnesses. You are the second person I saw complain about bpd care in the UK. Usually US doctors do not deny treatment just because it's addictive. Most people in the US can't go to a psychiatrist.

well which do u think is better , if it in uk , than try to find one place that is good for your disablity , if not go try usa , meaning get up and travel there to find what the deal ,and i'm sure u can find a place where they can help with your disablity. there a treatment out there , it is for u to make that move and go there to get it.

I think there is good and bad in both, at least here in the Uk we get health care on the NHS in the States and Canada I am led to believe you pay for it.
I think you have to decide what works for you.If they have offerd you psycotherapy then give it a go and see if it helps you, If not then find something else, the important thing is dont give up, you will find somehting that works for you.

please continue to find a therapist who is a specialist with BPD. Not everyone is (doctor) is familiar with it. Don't get discouraged. I see you live in the UK, but perhaps you can contact a doctor here in the US that can help you find some help (a book with guidelines, the right website) to get the help you need!
