Is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder a Human Disease?

im doing a project on Human Diseases and I am planning to choose Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) because my best friend has it, since I am out of contact with any of my teachers and class mates (Im over seas and teachers are not answering emails) i just wanted to know if I was researchiing an acual diease and not just a disorder... or are they the same thing?
THANKS! :)

(sorry i forgot to mention, i have allready googled it(many, many times) and the project is due the day after tommorow. (uh, well not technically, i still have like the whole entire plane ride to do it and then the day after, but just wanted to let you guys know...)
:)

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an illness that causes people to have unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and to repeat certain behaviors (compulsions) over and over again. We all have habits and routines in our daily lives, such as brushing our teeth before bed. However, for people with OCD, patterns of behavior get in the way of their daily lives.

Most people with OCD know that their obsessions and compulsions make no sense, but they can't ignore or stop them.

I think that an OCD is just that....a disorder

I would think so. I don't think animals suffer from it.

It is not a disease as in a bug or a virus. It is a brain screw up.

I am not sure myself. Try to Google it for more info. The reason I am answering your question is because I have heard that animals suffer from this. You might want to look into that too. Good luck.

I would be inclined to say that it
was a disorder to even though it
may plauge and disrupte the
lives of the people that it affects
just like a disease it can't be
accuired it's something that
your born with or that developes
from prexisting conditions

now i know your thinking what about
kids that are born hiv positive well thats
different because the disease was passed
along through it's parents

hope that helps

I think it's technically classified as a psychological disorder. Google it.

I would say not, because I raise horses and live on a farm. I also have many friends in the "business"

If you've been around animals you'd know they all have traits that pertain to this, from crewing their stalls, I've had some that just about ate their stalls away, to some that have traits that I had to get rid of them.

This goes for dogs and other animals also. I do believe all animals, at least all warm blooded animals have this.
