Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Prozac?? |
Ok so i just got diagnosed with OCD today. Its really affecting my life....i cant even drive! or sleep or do anything.....and my doctor talked to me about Prozac??? Does anyone know anything about this disorder and Prozac...i really wanna know as much as possible about it. so any help will be appreciated! Prozac is just one of many drugs approved for OCD, there's Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, & a few more that i can't think of right now. Many people have different types of OCD. Some have more compulsions, & some more obssessions. If you have more compulsions you'll usually do more rituals, if you have more obsessions you'll usually just have obssesive thoughts that turn into major worries ect. Just search the internet, there are lots of sites. But here's what i'll say about obssesive compulsive disorder, to some, they can act like hypochondriacs. And what i mean is sometimes it's better not to know what others are going through. For instense you might not have a problem but so & so is then you start worring about that & all of sudden you start doing that **** too. So sometimes less is more. Main thing is that you don't let it rule your life. You don't go into your problems that much so i'm not sure what to say. Personally & this is just me now, none of the medications have worked for me. They can help i guess, but it usually depends on what you do, more than the meds. And i've decided with my job to get on the cheapest form of drug in that group, because in my estimation they're all the same so if your short on cash just buy a generic 4 dollar medication in that group at walmart. Here's another thing about OCD. Have you ever seen that movie Doctor Doolittle & there's that obsessive compulsive dog that's like give me the ball give me the ball, & the rat goes you can't save em all doc. I mean i don't want to frighten you or anything but ocd is not like some of the other ailments people have. They really haven't come out with a medication that does a super duper great job. Prozac is used for OCD but it's mainly a drug for depression. So are most of the other drugs used for OCD. As far as therapy goes, most people say cognitive therapy is good, but that doesn't work so well for me, cause i get pissed off when some guy that doesn't know me so well starts saying that something i'm saying is irrational. He doesn't know me, best thing is to find somebody that lets you talk, not someone that loves to hear themself talk. Also there are many, many forms of OCD. Let your doctor tell you the one that you have. And you might have more than one. But don't let it control you. You can email me if you want. My sister has it too, but shes got a different type than me. And it used to be super bad, but now she's got a husband & three kids & she does alright. Nobody ever thought she'd be able to accomplish all of that, but she did! Anyway sorry for the huge run on paragraph, i've got to go eat lol. Prozac is an selective-serotonin reuptake inhibitor commonly prescribed as an antidepressant (trade names Prozac or Sarafem); it is thought to work by increasing the activity of serotonin in the brain Prozac is a drug! |
