Could I suffer from OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)?

When I was a kid my mother was seriously bothered by mess...I think she might have passed this down to me. I am bothered (and sometimes overly annoyed) by mess. I am the same way with cooking, and other tasks, I feel that I have to do it a certain way or it's wrong. I'm not "Monk" or anything, but the emotional effects disorder has on me is overwhelming and sometimes it more than bothers me...could these be symptoms of OCD?

could be...doesnt sound like its two extreme though...i have ocd, i cant eat certain things unless i eat them in even numbers, things have to be arranged just so on my counter, and sometimes i have to count things...its never really an issue to have stuff like this, unless it is seriously affecting your life to the point where you cant go out and do something because of a fear that if you do something wrong, something terrible is going to happen. if it gets that bad, you may want to go get help.

it wasn't my intent to demean your concern, it can be scary to think you might have a problem and I understand that. I just don't think you have that problem and you can relax. It should come as a relief that you DONT have a problem Report It

Yeah my father has OCD, I almost had it but now Im just chill.
Quit being so anal and just relax a little when you do things.

No, but you do sound like someone that suffers from OCDOCD, which is obsessive compusive disorder over compulsive disorders.

Sounds like it. If you want more info. go to www.panicsurvivor.com. It is a good site and will define OCD for you.

I don't think so, a lot of people are that way including myself... As long as you don't find yourself doing rituals (which is what they call it) you should be fine... A ritual is counting, locking and unlocking a door several times for no reason, wash your hands repeatedly...

no, you just need to relax and not take things so seriously..... A lot of these conditions are just easy excuses for people to act like idiots. Other times people just make it up in their head and do things because they think they've got OCD and brainwash themselves.

Those are common symptoms. If it bothers you that much then you should see a psychologist who specializes in OCD. I think you might have it. If you get disturbing thoughts if you don't clean a certain way or get fidgety...you are in the ratio of people who have it! I hope that is not the case.....but it doesn't hurt to get it checked out!

The "Adrian Monk" character represents an extreme case of OCD. Though I am by no means an expert, you may have a serious condition, or a not so serious condition. The former is OCD, and although you may be showing symptoms, it's impossible for me to diagnose you because 1) I am not an expert, and 2) I have no way of knowing just how serious your symptoms are. If you think you have OCD, you should go see a doctor or a psycotherapist, because they would be better able to diagnose you.

i heard about ocd i've seen it on tv. the girl on tv went to a psyhcologist and went from there. or you can see about by doing research on the computer.

Yes, but before all these had medical terms. We called them life or being anal.
Such as I was with cleaning, I spring cleaned (vents, baseboards) EVERY WEEK. Blah Blah
START S L O W:
leave a wrinkle or 2 in the bed.
let the dishes 'soak' longer
put those shoes together but up against the wall....don't put back in the closet or elsewhere.
PICK up the house daily but DONT Clean the house on the 'schedule'
Remember: NO One but you really knows how organized those drawers are, so toss something in, 'place' it later.
You will gradually 'release' these obsessions a little at a time.

Don't suffer from it, try to enjoy it!!

No, I think youre just a bit of a clean freak. A real victim of OCD would not be able to function in society. Its not funny like it is on Monk.
