Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "voices"?

Does anyone have the phenomena where they not so much hear a phrase or word in their head, but have it come to them, almost as if it is a thought, but nevertheless it is disturbing. I get that sometimes when I'm praying and this thought seems to come into my head in words that are vibrant. "Go to hell," it says and it is disturbing. It's as if I have words and phrases that pop up to disturb me at just the right time. It's not an auditory thing, such as a person who has schizophrenia.

Yes! I know exactly what you mean!!!
I'm terrified that I will one day or night view a ghost or something and so I keep saying "God help me" over and over again in my head but then a little something pops in (not really a voice but more like a thought that doesn't feel like your own) and says "You love the Devil" and it's makes me cry most times because I'm a Christian and knowing that that thought came from my brain makes me feel very disgusted with myself. I then have to beg my Makers pardon on my horrible thought, but I still feel extremely guilty for having it pop into my head.

My Grandmother once told me that the Devil likes to put things in to your head to make you doubt your faith. It kind of makes me feel a little better but I still feel like I should have been able to prevent it.

Oh ya I forgot to add that I am both Bi-Polar 1 and Obsessive compulsive.

The thought also comes into my head when I'm reading or watching a movie and God is brought up in some kind of conversation or other.

Just ignore it, and if it persists, remind yourself that you are bought with the precious blood of the lamb.

I have AD/HD, but while researching my disorder I have found good information about the experiences that you describe. I also have OCPD. This disorder has some similarities to OCD, but not the same type of obsessions.

The experience that you report is very common for people with OCD.

I know that you are not talking about something that is sexual in nature, but this article provides a good description of the OCD thought process and how different types of obsessions can occur.

Since OCD is a type of anxiety disorder in regards to neurology and pharmacology I highly recommend the following book. It provides many solutions. There are a number of discussions about natural supplements. Very often this addition will make your current medications more effective and reduce unwanted side effects. Please, always consult with your psychiatrist first.

I wish you well and hope that you find peace.

I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and this isn't it. There aren't usually voices in OCD (at least none of the OCs I know, or myself). Not all schizophrenia has auditory voices. In fact, not all people with schizophrenia hear voices at all. I don't know if it's schizophrenia (I'm not a psychologist), but I can tell you, it doesn't have ANYTHING to do with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. OCD is probably one of the most misunderstood disorders. I know that sounds "I am a victimish" but people tend to miss the main aspects in their understandings of it.

However, a good portion of my family is bipolar/manic-depressive (extended and some immediate) and a member of my family has confided in me that she does experience these types of instances in her depressive stretches of time.

Regardless, if it's really troubling you and affecting your day-to-day life and work, you should seek help. If it's just one of those in the back of your mind and doesn't really change your external well-being, maybe it's just something you need to work out within yourself. Use some judgement. We don't have all the details inside your head. If it's affected your external life, it's time for you to seek help.

Good luck.
