How is obesity a social issue?

need help with good websties that have facts on obesity.

Need help with talking about how obesity deals with social inequalities.
What type of documentaries are there that talk about obesity and gastric bypass surgery?

Post a question about obesity and you get a lot of garbage, and its not all food.
Try realage.com. for some interesting info on the true relationship between obesity and the scare tactics. It shortens your life, about two months at the age of 74. The stats include the morbidly obese and the slightly obese as if they were the same thing, but you can be 20-40 lbs overweight without much change. The largest cause of death under forty is alcohol and sports related. Chubby people tend to engage in fewer daredevil behaviors so the actually live to forty more often. Another lesser know fact.
The desire to see the obese as costing billions is a result of the insurance companies wanting to increase the cost of insurance not the results of any reason.
PBS recently ran an interesting special on obesity, you can check them out and see if they will repeat it if you can see it.
Just stay away from insurance sponsored sites, they have their own agenda.
One more fact, dieting has a 95% ffailure rate, if dieting were the answer it would n't be that high.
No responsible doctor would ever recommend a procedure or medication for an illness if it had such a high failure rate, they would laugh at it, yet, for dieting its still done.

i don't think its a social isssue, if people want to die obese, then they should. I think its more of a personal issue. But, no i don't have any links, sorry. :]

Try your Doctor and work from there!

YES it's a social issue! when it's a matter of self esteem or prejudice, that's one thing, but when it's costing the government and health insurance in the billions, it's become a social issue. it's a problem that nobody seems to know how to tackle. if i were you, i'd call an insurance agency AND your doctor's office and ask them for a good source for facts. the doctor's office will cover the personal issue, and the insurance office will cover at least the financial aspect of the social issue. good luck.

Well I answer your original question, because the rest don't pertain to the original topic. Obesity is a social issue because it's incredibly unhealthy, and that means tax payers foot the bill for your cheeseburger obsession. Plus, honestly, morbid obesity is naturally repulsive, and there's nothing you can do about that.

I have heard that obesity seems to be a bigger problem for poorer people. I would say it's probably because when you are poor, you aren't able to do as much and you don't have access to as much as people that are better off. If you are poor then you are limited to what kinds of food you can eat because of limited funds. Healthy and nutritious foods are expensive.
I

I think its very much a social issue. Obese adults often have children who are obese. These children have a difficult time fitting in with other non-obese children and they miss out on sports related activities which help young adults make friends and learn how to compete. Obesity is the result of utter lack of self control and lack of ambition. Its a crime against the human body. There is no evidence to support the theory that obesity is a result of hormones or faulty brain functioning.
