Is obesity here to stay?

Good afternoon. Was just wondering what everyones thought was on obesity. Because as a nation we are getting bigger, so in your own opinions is obesity here to stay? If so why do you think this?

Obesity will always be here to stay, just like other things in life are here to stay. It all depends on your actions and what you take in. everything has a cause and effect, wat you do will effect you. we're human none of us are gonna be perfect, some will eat more then others because of hunger or desire. it all depends on that person. so yes, it will probably stay.

yes

because no one knows how to diet properly

yeah i'm pretty sure it is. portions are getting huge and we dont know how to control ourselves any more. eating is a leisurely activity now, not a natural part of life. people eat when theres nothing else to do. so yeah we're getting fatter and fetter. AND they took away the fitness channel where i live!!

Yes, as long as there is cheap high calorie food around, there will always be the uneducated people who will stuff themselves on the rubbish.

I think so. lol! are you

Yes as long as there is fast food, drive thrus and drive ups that keep us from walking, remote controls, elevators and escalators, cars and everything else that makes us lazy.

I hope not if common sense prevails. I heard somewhere that the Govt. want traditional cookery lessons to be given in all secondary schools by 2010. If this is the case then with the theory that surroundes cookery we should have a more enlightened generation of up and coming cooks who can make good healthy choices for meals.

Yes. As our nation and it technologies develop, while great for industry, has but more Americans/Europeans up on their butts. We continue to be more and more sedentary with no focus on proper food habits and very limited education on exercising. Not to mention the lazy parents that would rather their kid sit in front of the tv instead of being active with them. We have also made it unbelievable cheap to eat like crap. Face it, it is more expensive to have a health dinner than to stop at burger king a fill out faces with saturated fat and no nutritional value, than in stead of going and doing something active going home and sitting around letting out fat cells continue to get larger. It is very sad. Over 60% of Americans are obese and of that 60% 30% are our future children.

I think not...
food manufacturers have become more conscious of people becoming more conscious of their weight.
Thus they have started to decrease fat, salt and all "bad" things in foods and have generally made food healthier.
Furthermore as we become more conscious that the weight of the country is increasing many people are looking at the themselves and wanting to get thinner.

finally the people who want to be smaller can be so it's down to choice.

*edit* i'm from England... The situation may be different in America :S

yes , it's here and will stay here.

the dollar is more important than our health. schools provide lousy lunches / parents do not have time to provide good nutrition / breakfast and dinners. schools have eliminated the physical education programs from school to focus on teaching kids how to take the standardized tests so they are in compliance with the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND.

Economically, the country is about to collapse / we'll be standing in food lines for whatever cheap government food the government decides they will provide us. i guarantee this food is not going to be healthy . commodity food is generally high fat cheese and canned meats loaded up with salt/preservatives/chemicals . not exactly the formula for trim waistlines. from a nutritional point of view you can eat a small amount of food per day and stay obese if it has a high fat content. i'm sure that the government will feed everyone from soup kitchens as the depression was in the 1920's. hungry people cause crime / internal conflict. they are going to have to contain that even if we are all living in tent city . things are bad now and appear that they are going to get even worse.

Fast food is too easy compared to cooking.
