Obesity and microorganisms?

An article in the "New York Times Magazine" stated that it is possible that obesity may not only be linked to genes and diet, but also microorganisms such as viruses...do you believe this? Just curious.

I wonder about that, too. When you're unhealthy, no telling what's living in there...

Certainly you imagine bacterial and viral infections that might
contribute to obesity, but I would think the other factors would
far outweigh them.

There are too many processes in the metabolism that
bacteria and viri can screw up that would either increase or
decrease weight gain. You can imagine that something that
continually made you tired might cause you to gain weight
if it didn't cause a corresponding drop of food intake.

This is the sort of check-and-balance that drives physiological
researchers to distraction.

Did you know that the latest and greatest research believes
that most ulcers are caused by a virus? There is a lot of
working going on right now on the interdependencies between
cancer and viri.

Obesity? Sure, why not.

Is the obesity causing microorganisms to live in the body? Or are the microorganisms causing the obesity? I don't understand.

Either way, anything is possible.

no way in hell... I'm sorry, but if that was the case, our ancestors would've been fat... here's the problem: MCDONALDS... go watch Supersize Me... I love how Americans like to blame being fat on bad genes.. microorganisms... etc. It's our diet, and lack of exercise. simple
