Effects of obesity?

I know that obesity puts a person at a higher risk for certain cancers, diabetes, and sleep problems. Obesity puts pressure on joints and organs. But...can someone tell me how it effects other things like self-esteem or??????

How about quality of life in general... that covers everything.

an obese person usually have a lower self esteem and can lead to depression, unhappiness, and discontentment.

Brief summary of obesity effects -
Heart - increases strain on it because of increased blood load. Also increases blood pressure, which also strains the heart.
Lungs - increases workload because needs more oxygen due to increase in weight. Also fat makes lungs more compressed ,making more work, again
Digestion - a fatty diet will make you absorb more cholesterol,
damaging heart and blood vessels. Also increases acid reflux, because fat compresses stomach.
Skin - stretch marks! cellulite! Also poor wound healing - 90 % of the wound infections I've seen are in obese people.
Bones - extra weight causes more wear and tear on the body,
increasing any arthritis or joint damage.
Muscles- increased risk of falling and actually hurting yourself-
because the extra weight gives you more momentum,
Bladder - did you know it becomes increasingly difficult to clean properly as you gain weight? Put a pillow in your pants and try to reach 'down there'.
Pregnancy - being very heavy can actually stop you from ovulating [ not a good method of birth control ]. Some obese women have longer labors because the oxytocin absorbs into their fat instead of going to uterus.
All of this can affect your self esteem, but it doesn't have to -
people should be judged by their words and deeds, not how they look!

Of course, the psychosocial effects of obesity will vary depending on the individual effected. However, Harvard Health Publications has the following to say, "...Some research suggests that depressed persons are more likely to develop the metabolic syndrome that often accompanies excess weight, especially when this weight is concentrated around the waist. People may console themselves with 鈥渃omfort food鈥? which is usually high in fat, sugar, and calories because they are anxious, lonely, angry, or suffering from low self-esteem. There is a characteristic type of depression with symptoms that include lethargy and overeating. Like most mind-body interactions, obesity can lead to ill health, which is linked to depression and anxiety.

Additionally, overweight people are also more likely to lose the psychological benefits of exercise. If they feel rejected, unattractive, or suffer social discrimination, the emotional strain may cause further weight gain. The problem is worse if they fail to lose weight and are blamed (or blame themselves) for lack of self-control..."

Apparently, it is one of those 'chicken-egg' situations. Emotional problems might have led towards behaviors causing the obesity, but obesity may also result in stigma and lowered self esteem that can lead to mental health problems.
