Effects of obesity? |
I know that obesity puts a person at a higher risk for certain cancers, diabetes, and sleep problems. Obesity puts pressure on joints and organs. But...can someone tell me how it effects other things like self-esteem or?????? How about quality of life in general... that covers everything. an obese person usually have a lower self esteem and can lead to depression, unhappiness, and discontentment. Brief summary of obesity effects - Of course, the psychosocial effects of obesity will vary depending on the individual effected. However, Harvard Health Publications has the following to say, "...Some research suggests that depressed persons are more likely to develop the metabolic syndrome that often accompanies excess weight, especially when this weight is concentrated around the waist. People may console themselves with 鈥渃omfort food鈥? which is usually high in fat, sugar, and calories because they are anxious, lonely, angry, or suffering from low self-esteem. There is a characteristic type of depression with symptoms that include lethargy and overeating. Like most mind-body interactions, obesity can lead to ill health, which is linked to depression and anxiety. |
