Do you think teen obesity worsens?

I am doing a research paper. Do you think that teen obesity worsens when teens leave the nest? Or do you think at times the obesity gets better because teens are now out of their controlled environment with their parents.

it can go either way ... if the family eats a lot, but the friends don't, the teen will lose weight ... if the family was very controlling, the teen most likely will gain weight ... if the teen is truly on their own and has few funds, they will likely lose weight or stay thin b/c they can't afford excess food - or if they don't have a car, they can end up walking a lot more to get places and to the bus stop ...

I lost weight b/c I walked everywhere and I was a picky eater and hated eating out, but was in college and lived in a dorm w/o a kitchen ...

Gets better cuz their out of their controlled environment.

It depends on the individual. But looking at the majority of the U.S.A. I would have to say it worsens. Myself, im into fitness so I probably weight less than most americans my age and height lol

statistics say that obesity in every area is raising in the u.s. Children especially

I think that obesity lessens after teens move out, because a lot of them are too poor for an abundant amount of food. Like me, lol.

Kids tend to continue on the good or bad habits they learn at home. Sometimes the kid will slim down from the pressures of dealing with the responsibilities of life, but for the most part it gets worse. They don't call it the "freshman 10" for nothing. (The 10 pounds most kids gain in their freshman year of college).

My problems began when i left home, i didnt really know how to cook and so i relied on ready meals and fast food. It's only when i got into my late twenties that i took control and lost the weight.
I think it also depends on what sort of home life they have. In France for example all the family sit down to dinner together so the teens dont really get asked what they want to eat, they just get given it so they rarely have the option of pizza or curry etc because the mother tries to feed all the family the same nutritious food and this habit stays with the kids when they leave. They also help with the cooking and shopping which is something that we dont really do in England.

I'd think that it actually worsens because people stick to their habits. I have stayed eating alot and I'm way to lazy to exercize. Of coarse I plan to change as I always do, but continually get lazy on myself. I did buy myself a recumbent exercise bike, and after about 6 months use, I just don't use it, though I try. My parents always watched my weight, but I grew stubborn on them.

i think it worsens because parents tend to regulate what their kids eat, so when the kid gets out i think their more likely to eat unhealthy food because noyone can tell them what to eat and not to eat ,this is one possible outcome. you also take into account that obesity can also be corralated to their parents upbringing, meaning if parents encourage healthy eating the child will more likely continue eating healthy after he leaves. as appose to parents who dont really regulate or encourage healthy eating. the last thing to keep in mind is that genetics may also play a part in a childs obesity and there after. hope this helps.

well i think it jst depends on wat type of person u are.i wana get out of my house because it will b easier 4 me 2 lose weight.but if u like eating alot then u will find a way 2 replace ur parents.
