Has anyone ever had laser eye surgery? Does it hurt? Is your vision really any better?

I am considering having laser eye surgery as I have an eye condition called Nystagmus and although I know it will not cure the condition I have been made aware that it could be significantly improved with the surgery, does anyone know if it gives you perfect 20/20 vision?

I have had Lasik, and my vision is perfect now (and it's been over 2 years). The surgery only lasts a few minutes, and they will probably give you something to make you relax. My vision was fine within a couple of days. It was expensive, but it was worth it for me.

You should check around to find a reputable doctor. Some people are not good candidates for Lasik and a good doctor won't do it if you are one of those people. You should tell the doctor you see about your condition---you can even talk to your regular eye doctor and see what he/she thinks.

Even if you are a good candidate, sometimes it takes more than once for them to get your vision perfect (or close to it). Some doctors offer a guarantee so they will do it as many times as it takes to get it right. Mine were perfect after the first try; my friend had to do it twice. There are risks, but you can talk to a couple of doctors and make sure it's right for you. You might want to talk to people in your area who have had it and get some recommendations for doctors.

I don't know anything about your eye condition, but I've had laser surgery, and i have perfect vision now. I was terrified, but it doesn't hurt a bit- and I'm a wuss!! I had mine done with Ultralase in London. My eyes were really watery directly afterwards, and blurry for about 48 hours but no pain at all.

You won't regret having it done! Read the forums on www.ultralase.com for others experiences, and advice on your condition.

yes my wife sffers from diabetes and that amonst other things effects her eyes and has had a lot of laser treatment, and it is very scary having you eye clamped open and have to watch the laser coming right up to your eye,but yes there was an improvement until they partially burnt her foccul lens and now she is losing her sight in one sight rapidly so please don't take this lightly and check all avenues and dangers

i always wonder why docs still wear spec is it because they cant afford lazer treatment?

JC is the only one that really answered your question.

I just want to add some advise, that I gave on two similar questions.

First:
Very successful results - Everyone I know that has had this procedure it thrilled and says it has changed their life - never any regrets!!! Dark glasses that day 鈥?you wake up the next day you can see!!

Prices will vary...Usually between 1-3 thousand dollars PER eye.

Be aware of these facilities that have a $900 Laser Surgery 鈥渟pecial鈥?
Also, make sure they are a board certified Ophthalmologist and get stats - such as how many surgery have they done, how many per year, per month etc...Success AND failure rates. Yes, this IS your business to know!!! The Ophthalmologist is an MD鈥檚 (medical doctor) 鈥?not ODs (Doctor of optometry).

Most Ophthalmologists will have a finance plan as well. Also, most will give a 鈥渇ree鈥?consultation to make sure you are a good candidate for the surgery.
