Poll..........Do you have a nut allergy? My dear Grandson鈾? does..how do you cope?

my son now 22 is allergic to all nuts known to man. he has always carried an epipen and i made sure that i scared to death everyone who was serving him food when i wasn't present so that they made sure there were no hidden nuts in the food.theses included restaurants, birthday party moms , teachers, and dumb relatives.he has yet to have an anaphalatic shock experience and he went to a school that did not ban peanuts.i felt it was his problem and that he had to learn at a very young age to take care of himself and he has been very successful. food to look out for are chili people put peanut better in it and dont tell also ham ....some spread peanut butter on it to cook it and also ice cream to u can now buy it made in a peanut free facility. our rule was if u were not sure of content dont eat it. he did not miss out on any social events and was accepted by all the kids who were very vigilant in looking out for nuts.his only disappoint in life is that chiefs school was not a viable career for him to pursue which is what he wanted to do but he is in hotel management at college and still has managerial duties over restaurants.good luck to yr grandson be vigilant but also dont make him feel different for his allergy lots of people have things that are much worse and visible things and yes make sure he wears a medical alert bracelet.he may still out grow his allergy unless he has the accompanying asthma which my son does there is still hope for a vaccine down the road tho i have been waiting 20 yrs for it.

I have a beer close my eyes and pretend its a woman with swollen lips..

serious though that's quite a bad allergy to have...you have to be so careful as lots of products do have nuts in them.

make teachers aware baby sitters friends and family...that's all you can do.
when he grows he will educate himself to be o.k

When I lived in Vail Colorado a Doctor was doing a test on allergies. My ex-wife was allergic to anything with citrus or acid in it like tomatoes and watermelon. At the allergy study the doctor explained to her about how our body can tag something as being bad if we take it in when we are under a lot of stress. He then showed her a video of some kind and from that day on the allergy has been gone. It had something to do with the immune system tagging things as bad for your body and your immune system remembers that in the future any time you put it in your body again. I thought it was amazing how just the awareness of that and a video could take away years of a major allergy.

Go to www.lymefree.com and read the testimonials. It is a real thing and works. I worked as a reception worker there. It is real and you have to read it to believe it. A little girl (which whom isn't so little any more) had a peanut allergy. Life threatening and she went through the treatments that Gary Bliar created and she now eats penut butter almost daily.

i am very allergic to any nut products. i carry benodryl with me just in case i eat any because if i do i get hives and my throat starts to close. it is a very scary allergy. i am not as bad as i used to be. many people gr ow out of the allergies as they grow up. it gets easier

The real test will come when your grandson goes to school in two years. Every school has it's own policy about these things. I highly suggest you check around, speak to the principals, nurses, health clerks, and lunch persons before choosing a school. ( Unfortunately some schools view these allergies as a nuisance even though they are so prevalent.) Sad, but true.
Right now, you are able to pre - screen and watch his every move. Hopefully you have his meds at your side should a slip up occur.
In school, even the best kids may accept a cookie, or take a dare. They just don't understand. Trust me, I have seen it happen 3 times in 10 years."So and so said there were no nuts in the cookies." "Everyone else was eating cookies, so I did" etc... These are very responsible kids, mind you.

For school:
Be sure to fill out ALL the necessary paperwork and make yourself (your daughter) available at ALL times. If we can't reach you, your child is going to the E.R. It is extremely common to not be able to reach a parent when needed.

Please supply the school with your own Epi-pen and/or Benedryl along with DETAILED instructions!

A medic-alert bracelet is great. (Though I hardly ever see those) .
Take care, I know it is difficult. But you are definitely not alone!
So be PREPARED. I have seen the best of moms slip up (overlooking nuts in a recipe etc.) Preparation and knowledge are the key. This should put your mind at ease. Nothing worse than being caught off guard.
And PLEASE don't forget; it is possible for a child to outgrow or lessen the allergy to peanuts鈾?/div>

Health Clerk. Experience with peanut allergies.

No, but a little boy in my daughter's class at school is allergic to peanuts. I felt so sorry for him at his birthday party. He couldn't even eat a piece of his birthday cake. He had to have a special cupcake made for him to eat. I didn't realize just how many foods contained peanuts.

I don't Judy, but i will keep your grandson in my prayers!

Hi Sweet Judy,
No i don't but i sure feel Sorry for your Grandson.. I really hope he doesn't get a hold of something with nuts in it..
A Friend,

No, Sweet Judy, I honestly do not know anyone who has really bad
allergies to nuts. But as long as he is taught from a very early age
and he realizes how serious this can be, he needs to get a note
from his doctor stating that he has the allergy and that he needs to
keep an Epinephrin pen or Benedryl on his person at all times. All caretakers, school teachers, babysitters, and all friends and family should be made aware of your grandson's allergy to nuts. That will
help protect him from being exposed to food and if he should by chance get hold of something that has crushed nuts in it, he will feel the swelling coming on, and if he has the Epi-Pen or Benedryl tablets with him at all times, he can use one or the other right away to help keep him safe from any danger he might happen to encounter. That's really sad to hear, but little ones learn and they usually adjust very fast, especially if they have ever had one single
episode that scared them. While he's little he will have to be watched like crazy, but once he is school age, he should be able to remember how dangerous this can be to him and I'm sure he will avoid anything that visibly contains any signs of having nuts in it.
And make sure his doctor talks to him about how careful he needs to be. That medical alert bracelet is a very good idea for younger children that have terrible allergies.

Best of luck to your darling grandson鈾?Sweet Judy!鈾?/div>
