Nut Allergies ?

I have never been alergic to anything all my life. I moved from San Diego to Virginia Beach about 5 years ago, and all the sudden last year I developed allergies (seasonal), which I heard was common for people that move here.

Well about the same time last year I noticed that sometimes when I ate nuts , my throat and inside my ears got itchy feeling. It's not every time I eat them, maybe like 1/3 of the time. Is it possible to develop allergies with nuts? And why is it not consistant?

I would avoid eating anything thatmake "my throat and inside my ears got itchy feeling" The early symptoms show up mild but if they are reaggrivated can lead to a full on blow out and you could have a huge attack. Go get tested by an allergist and then follow his recommendation

im allergic to nuts too.
just not the food.

You can develop allergies at any time, to anything. Period. I would say that you're probably not allergic to nuts, but that something else in the environment caused your reactions. I moved from Va to San Diego and now my seasonal allergies are gone (except when the Santa Ana's blow the pollen from the desert over San Diego).

The Navy has a way of moving you about.

developing allergy abruptly is not impossible many people develop allergy for medications or foods they didn't have before but once the allergy appears it doesn't disappear abruptly
if the symptoms appear only in 1\3 of the nuts that has been eaten that means one of two
1\its not allergy
2\or its allergy but u didn't eat the quantity that elicit the allergy

i love alison

A person can develop allergies at any random point in their lives for absolutely no reason.

My advice would be to pay attention to which kind of nuts you are eating when you get the allergic reaction. You could be allergic to peanuts but not to almonds or vice verse.

Keep some benedryl with you at all times, a pill or two in your wallet so that if you happen to have a reaction while you are out, you have something you can take to suppress it.

The same thing happened with me and figs. Who knew! :)

the reaction to an allergy is not always the same. my little brother sometimes only gets an itchy throat when he eats nuts, and otehr times he throws up and cant breathe
go get tested for allergies
better safe than sorry =]
