Is travel difficult with nut allergies?

Is it difficult and/or dangerous for a toddler to travel with anaphylactic food allergies? Flight and hotel?
The allergies are more than nuts (tree nuts), it's also eggs, sesame and barley, all anaphylactic.
There are lesser allergies to almost all grains and dust.

He only has to be in the room with nuts to get a reaction. Eating in a restaurant is not possible. If he eats a food that is prepared near nuts or eggs he has a reaction. I'll have to prepare my own foods.

Great question. However, if he is THAT sensitive,
even to be in the same room,
there are two things you should do:

(1) Call your doctor and get his/her recommendations.
(2) Have a baby-safe Epi-Pen type of drug available for
such a reaction.

You've done the right thing by preparing his own foods, should you go into a restaurant. Usually adults with serious life-threatening allergies must tell the restaurant they are not looking to get the recipe, but need to know if certain ingredients, e.g., wheat in any form, is in the meal they are wanting to order.

Traveling in such conditions must be determined by a doctor, if possible by an allergist. You must be prepared for anything, in order to keep your toddler safe. Your baby may outgrow SOME of these allergies later in life, or may not. I developed allergies of my own much later in life.

Good luck with finding a pediatric allergist, specialist, or someone who would be willing to tell you what can be done.

God bless you for asking.

It isn't hard to travel or dangerous for them to travel as long as you watch what your kid eats. Even at home you probably have to watch certain so that they don't eat something they are allergic too.

it depends how bad his reactions are. if he has the kind of reaction where he break out when he's in the room with nuts, eggs, etc. then yes, it would be very difficult.

But if his reactions only happen when he eats the foods, then it may just be a little annoying. What you should do is ask if the foods he is allergic to are in the foods he eats. You could even write a list of what he is allergic to and give it to whoever is making the food and ask them not to use those foods.

i have a bad nut allergy, not as bad as what your sons sounds, but still bad. if your travelling then tell the people you are travelling with before you go, i.e. on a plane or coach. they should then take any nuts off the menu. on a train you can get your own room-thingy and it should be easy in a car.

Dining should be okay as well, before dining out ring up the restaurant and ask about the kitchen and nuts and stuff, this is a little awkward because most kitchens will have nut traces in.

Nut allergies are only difficult if you want them to be, they are annoying, but not difficult.

Yeah it is difficult. Now a days the airlines have taken the peanuts away. I would check that first, usually the hotels will be safe.

I'm guessing it isn't any different than going to the grocery store or anywhere else. Every time your son steps out the door, you have the chance for a reaction. So ask yourself: Am I going to keep my son in the house forever, or am I going to learn to deal with and prevent future reactions? I'm sure your allergist and pediatricians have some great advice for you, as well.
Good luck!
