Nut allergies?

my sister ate a cashew or a pistachio, shes 12. She says her stomach and throat hurts, and she has some hives on her stomach. What should be done

You should give her benadryl right away. If no improvement or she gets worse, call 911. When 2 or more systems are involved (skin & GI) it is anaphylaxis. You can never tell how quickly it will progress.

If you think she is having an allergic reaction it could be mild or severe.

signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction include hives, itching, rash, rapid pulse, difficulty breathing, elevated blood pressure and many others.

If the allergy is serious you should contact an MD as soon as possible. Sometimes the symptoms are self-limiting (will go away by themselves) but you might not want to take that chance. The MD may tell you to give her some benadryl but if you are at all worried that this is getting worse, not better, seek professional medical help.

If she gets amphlyaxis that's bad. I usually throw p, and choke with a high blood pressure, but you should see a doctor, or go to an allergist for an allergy test.

make an allergist appointment for her to be tested for these allergies. have her avoid nuts until the appointment just in case. if it happens again before you get to see the allergist, give her benadryl and make sure she drinks a lot of water to flush it all out of her system.
