Is coconut a "tree nut"? |
have a client w/ tree nut allergies. believe it to be a tree nut or is it ? Just found that the cocnut is actually a fruit. Thanks for your help. It isn't a nut as such - however don't be complacent. My son is severaly allergic to peanuts so we had him tested for a variety of tree nuts to see if his allergy included those and I specifically asked for him to be tested for coconut. He turned out to be allergic, to varying degrees (2/6 to 4/6) to almonds, brazil nuts, hazelnuts, macademias, pistachios, walnuts and coconut in addition to peanuts (6/6). So no coconut for him! Yes....The tree itself is a 'palm', the coconut that it produces is indeed a 'nut'......... It is considered a tree nut. yes it is It grows on one, so, yep! |
