Does nut allergies mean peanuts too?

My 2 and a half year old just had a sever vomiting and broke out into hives. His breathing is fine and he's napping. His eaten lots of peanuts and peanut butter, but just had some mixed nuts for lunch. Could that be it or is he just sick?

Nut allergies mean all nuts (legumes) including peanuts and peas!

peanuts are the cause of allergy's ---nuts usually not ( legumes as above do not include tree nuts ! ) PEOPLE WHO ARE ALLERGIC TO ONE CAN BE ALLERGIC TO THE OTHER but it is not a sure thing and peanut allergies are the most common HAVE YOUR SON TESTED

NOOOO... well sort of. Although people are often allergic to certain types of nuts (just as pollen allergy sufferers are allergic to certain pollens), typically there are several types of nuts a subject is allergic to. NO a nut allergy alone does not mean a person is allergic to peanuts, but it almost certainly suggests that a person may have other nut allergies with peanuts as a possibility. Example: I have a friend who is allergic to all nuts except for peanuts and almonds. She routinely eats snickers, but a cashew sent her to the hospital. Just like with plant and mold allergies, you need to have your child tested for the particular types of nut allergies. Typically allergies are clustered into types of nuts (for example several people are allergic to all tree nuts). Your son seems to be allergic to certain nuts (the hives is a dead giveaway- sorry for using dead), but only a professional can tell you which.

Nut allergies is just that- allkinds of nut and anything that comes into contact with nuts.

it could be i would call your doctor and tell him and if things get worse take him to the hospital. you can never be to careful and yes peanuts to are in that same factor. everyone has different reactions to things.

yes

Obviously.

nut allergies include peaNUTS!

YOU THINK MAYBE HE SHOULD NOT EAT THAT ANYMORE ARE YOU DENSE DID YOU NOT GET HIM TO A DOCTOR WHAT KIND OF MOMMY DEAREST ARE YOU SO MAYBE IN THE FUTURE GET HIM CHECKED OUT STUPID PEOPLE SHOULD NOT HAVE KIDS

You should have an allergy skin test done to pinpoint the EXACT FOOD your child is allergic to. Some people can tolerate RAW nuts , yet a roasted nut will send them to the hospital, as their bodies cannot tolerate the mixture of the heated oil that releases toxins in the nuts & changes the chemical compounds to a carcenegin (poison). Some people cannot break down the fats from the roasted nut products. Have this checked out & never assume that ALL nut products will have to be eliminated until you have the skin test done. At any rate, you should not be feeding a sick child nuts because they are difficult to digest.

well peanuts are consider nuts and i heard that people that are allergic to peanuts have severe case of hives and even death. my best guess for you is to talk to you doctor about this as soon as possible so you could avoid this problem.

As Gavin said, my brother is allergic to all nuts EXCEPT peanuts and almonds. He is also allergic to penicillin, chocolate, and poppy seeds. And he doesn't necessarily have to ingest them to have a reaction. You might want to watch your son for reactions to those things as well.

nut allergys mean any kind of nuts and includes peanut butter check all food labels before buying any food stuff if your one has a nut allergy watch what you buy for them

No always. My son is peanut allergic but can handle pecans off the tree. Every child is different. Call your ped. and ask to have him allergy tested. Be sure to make sure that peanuts and all tree nuts are included.

UMMM IS THAT YOUR REAL HAIR COLOR IN THE AVATAR?

you need to get him tested as soon as possible.

Sorry to say, but nuts are nuts. Your best bet is to get him to an allergist or someone that is qualified to care for your child. Doesn't he have a pediatrician that you can call? Make an appointment, this is your child. Don't rely on the internet for guidance. You could check out the website www.webmd.com and research it there. Hope this helps
