Is this against the law, concerning nursing homes, I dont know if i should report this to the state..? |
My brother is in a nursing home/rehabilitaion center, because of obesity.. Since he has been there there has alot of problems, including the following: I should also put in that when he does call a nurse it takes about 30 minutes for them to come in to him.. I am a Nurse and was a CNA in a nursing home and you listed at least 4 violations based on the facility I've worked in. You should contact the state... Each place has it's own report network so you'll need to look up the number in your state. You can make the report without leaving your name if that would be better. I would call and report who the nurse was and the other thing to do is have your brother (if he's able) keep a diary of the things that happen including date time and names so that you have details... otherwise it's your word against theirs. Good LuckQ! The call light should be reported to the administrater as well as the broken bed. Report the diarrhea not changed incident to your ombudsman as well as the other things. As for falling out of bed a doc doesn't need to check on him unless he needed to go to the emergency room., A nurse can assess a fall. Of COURSE YOU SHOULD REPORT THIS. I don't know about illegal, but it's not right. I would report it if I were you. They are supposed to take care of your brother, that is what he is in there for. If they are not taking care of him to the best of their ability then something should be done about it. If nothing is done, you may consider transferring him. He deserves the best and shouldn't have to wait until morning for bed changes, etc. I am so sorry to hear of this happening to your brother. I'm no expert on this topic by any means. The only thing that I will say is this. Have you spoken to the director of this nursing home yet? That might be a start in the right direction. Let him/her know of the things that have been going on with your brother. If that doesn't help, than I would say to contact the state. There is no need for them to be treating your brother they way they are. First, you need to let the facility director and head of nurses know of his care. Let them know he has family that are watching over him. Go on the internet and find the Ombudsman for your state. Type into google nursing home abuse, that should give you some links. I would ask for confidentiality with reporting to the state, they can do this without releasing your name. You need to be an advocate for your brother and let them know this is not acceptable. Also, can you move him to another facility. It is actually easier than you think. If you have any other family to help you, get them involved. YES YES YES! those conditions are sick and wrong. i hate to say it is a sad fact that this that you have described is not uncommon. most individuals who work in a nursing home do not intend for these things to happen but because they are so overwhelmed sadly it does. the neglegance of quick remedy of things among others described should be reported to both the director of nursing at the facility and the administrator. keep a written record of all communication and contact the local ombudsman(they are supposed to go around to nursing homes and see how things are operating and talk to both residents and the facility). then if nothing is resolved after talking to the facility and possibly having a meeting to resolve certain issues. call the state and dont hesitate to make random "surprise" visits where your brother isnt even expecting you so he wont say anything and that way you can truely check up and see if things are being done even when your not expected and find out where their corporate office is located and contact them to make sure they are aware and if they really care they will do whats appropriate to investigate where the down fall is and insist the facility fix it or they will get rid of who is causing such a deficiency. it may also be adviseable to move your brother to another facility. when they hear that you want to transfer trust me they will act as if he is king.if they really dont want this to look bad on them. |
