What are some of the best nursing homes in (near) Baltimore, MD that accept Medicaid patients for long-term?

Searching for a some place near Woodlawn area for father.

This is what I would do after making sure my dad would definitely qualify for medicaid nursing home placement. I would call the ones in my area, and ask them if they accepted it. Also, you'll have to find out if your dad's doctor only goes to certain ones, if at all. Then, equipped with this information, I'd hit the streets, and drop in on them. While they probably would want me to make an appointment for a tour, I'd not plan it that way. I would definitely visit on the 3-11 shift, on a week day evening. This is the busiest time, and this is when you're most likely to get the best picture of the quality of care. Lots of the staff leaves around 5 pm mostly, so I'd probably wait until about 7:30 if possible. I would walk through like I knew just what I was doing. Speak to the residents. If I met a staff person coming down the hall, I'd speak to them to, like "Hi, you working hard this evening?" Just something friendly and brief would do. Then, I'd say good bye on the way out the door if I saw more staff or residents - "Now, you take care" or "Try not to work too hard." - Something like that.
Then, if I got away with that trip, I'd do the same thing again during dinner time to see if there was enough staff to get everyone fed.
All nursing homes may have unpleasant odors sometime, But, they shouldn't smell bad all the time. Most will have someone asking for help, but not the same resident constantly, unless the resident is confused and habitually verbalizes this way. All of them should be clean and safe, and as cheery as possible.
You could ask 100 people the same question as far as which nursing home was best or worst. You will get alot of different answers, and they are based on many different complicated issues. It is easy to criticize a parent's caretaker is the child feels guilty about having to place their parent there. Oftentimes, staff will make a habit of going the other way quickly when a difficult family member visits. Thus, it becomes a slippery slope because the family member thinks no one is giving the resident any care. One family will love the caretakers, and another will constantly threaten to sue.
I'd make the casual visits and not rely so much on word of mouth or Medicaid complaint reports. All nursing homes get complaints, and while all of them have to be investigated, it doesn't mean they are necessarily a bad place. Good luck. I know this is never easy. After you find a place where you want your Dad to stay, visit frequently, and have family members commit to each visiting a certain day so you've got someone there daily if possible. Again, while this isn't necessarily right, frequent checks by the family is a big factor in keeping staff on their toes. Be nice to the staff, and they'll make an extra effort to look out for your dad.

I can't really remember the name but check out Towson. They have a great one there, it's a northern suburb of Baltimore. You can probably just google nursing homes in Towson. Good Luck!

You can call Medicaid and ask them for a list of nursing homes that accept medicaid. Then with the names contact the AMA ( American medical association) or the BBB and find out the specifics of each home. Sounds like a lot of work but it is the best way to weed out the worst homes for the better ones. Also it will help you to know your loved will be cared for and not mistreated. Medicaid has a lot of restrictions and most nursing homes will not accept medicaid assignment. I know for a fact as I am a medical billing specialist.
