Do you have any info on nursing homes?

I need info on nursing homes because I am researching it.

I鈥檓 one of the writers for Gilbert Guide (the foremost resource for everything senior care). Our site lists scores of valuable information about nursing homes. Your question is fairly broad, so I鈥檓 not entirely sure what you鈥檙e asking. Here is some general information as a starting point:

Skilled nursing facilities, or SNFs (pronounced "sniffs"), are also known as nursing homes or convalescent homes. SNFs are live-in facilities that provide medical treatment prescribed by a physician. These nursing care facilities cater to several types of patients: some patients require short-term rehab while recovering from surgery; others require long-term nursing and medical supervision. In addition, some SNFs offer specialized care programs for Alzheimer's or other illnesses, or short-term respite care for frail or disabled persons when a family member requires a rest from providing care in the home.

SNFs provide twenty-four hour nursing care; rehabilitation services such as physical, speech and occupational therapy; assistance with personal care activities such as eating, walking, bathing and using the toilet; coordinated management of patient care; social services; and activities.

Whatever else you do, visit there personally and talk to the residents. Also, once you have a loved one in there--check on them, check on them, and check on them some more. Make yourself a fixture at the place. Even the best of them seriously underpay their workers, but if you are well-known, they will take their smoke break after getting grandma off her bedpan and not before. When my mother was in (twice), I visited on all 3 shifts, just to be sure they treated her good when they weren't expecting anyone to know.
