How much do you REALLY trust hospitals/nursing homes for the long-term care of your loved-ones?

Ask if you can tour the facility and perhaps meet with some of the people that will be taking care of your loved one. Go with your gut. If in doubt, don't let them care for your loved one. There are too many scams out there that try to take advantage of people's sicknesses and old age. I'm sorry, but that's all I've got.

having worked in both venues, I can tell you there are good ones and there are bad ones. The only way to know is to visit them, walk the halls, sit in the dining areas, be nosy. See for yourself the care recieved.

It is real hard to trust places like these. I have worked in nursing homes and I see how they get treated. Some aides are real good. You could'nt find any better but then you have some that don't give a hoot for the person laying there. All they are there for is a paycheck. When you are a nursing asst. you have to be there for more than that. I would have to tell the truth, it would be real hard for me to put a loved one in a home. Real hard.

Having had a Father in an Alzheimer's facility and an Aunt in an assisted living place, my answer is NOT AT ALL!
The prices were obscene and the care was horribly inadequate. This was NOT the fault of the aides or the medical staff. It was the fault of the money-grubbing owners and administrators who payed awful wages and heaped work on people who meant well.
Both my Aunt and Father were in two different places before we brought them back home.
These places shouldn't happen to anyone.

I guess it depends on how much work you are willing to do and how much you are willing to pay. Homes that do not use STNAs and pay a little less are sometimes willing to cut corners but homes that use STNAs have a little bit more standard and will probably charge a little more. Check out the quality of staff at the homes. As for hospitals, I don't know a lot that do long term home care
