Is there an easy way to find a skilled nursing facility nursing home in WA? we'd prefer a non-profit?

Looking to find a SNF for my grandmother. She needs a lift transfer and feeding tube capabilities in a nursing home. We're looking in King, Snohomish and Kitsap counties in the state of WA. Any advice in researching nursing homes is greatly appreciated.

I would check with the Better Business Bureau. They will be able to tell you if any possible choices have debt issues or complaints filed against them. A clean record is only the start. If they have a clean record, check to see how long they have been in business.

I hope you find the right place.

dont be cheap

Never heard of a non-profit SNF or LTC facility. Can I presume that your grandmother is currently in a Sub-Acute Care facility? I would think so if she has a G-tube or NGT. If so, her Social Worker will locate one for her. If she's already at home, call her previous SW anyway and ask for help.

As far as researching LTCs/SNFs, go there yourself. When you walk in if it smells bad, turn around and walk out. Request a tour. If from the front desk you're able to view resident information, this is a HIPAA violation. Leave. Is it clean? Are the staff helpful and friendly? Do they appear to show kindness and respect to the residents? Are you able to observe residents receiving care? If so, privacy isn't observed. Leave. You should be told about the daily routines and activities available. There should be a wall-sized calendar of facility events that you can look at. Do you overhear any staff talking about residents or complaining about the work? Leave. Do the residents appear to be clean and well taken care of? If not, leave. Find out the staff-resident ratio. How often do the dcotors come in to see the residents? Any complaints or law suits on file? Any current OSHA, Health Dept. or Medicaid/Medicare violations? Any restrictions on the facility's license? Who owns it? Do the owner and administrator have a health care background? What is it?

In the end you will go with your gut feeling in making the decision.
