I lost a dear friend to phenomena she was only 53 and in a nursing home I think the nursing home was at fault.

She was disabled and needed nursing home care even though she was only 53 years old. Should someone in the nursing home have taken her to the Dr.? Is this normal for Nursing Homes?

What would you do if this were your sister. She was able to talk her mind was clear, she was able to tell them she was sick! She needed to use a walker.

I think the Nursing Home should have taken her to the Dr. I worked in a Nursing Home for Years and they should have been taking her B.P. and Temp. every day and they should have seen that she was sick, if she were my sister? I am afraid that I would take that Nursing Home to court. When I was working in a Nursing Home we staff would often discuss why the nursing staff didn't do a better job in reporting illness to the Dr. Your friend should have had a phenomena shot as well as a Flue shot. Living in a group setting like she was she should have been better protected! I would transport residents back and forth to Dr.'s appointments. So I know that they should have taken your friend to the Dr.

Sorry about your friend and I agree that this Nursing Home was to blame. Report It

i thought their were doctor's on call at the nursing homes. check with her family and see of they want to pursue it. they are the only ones who can get her medical information.I'm sorry about your loss.

I have been a nurse for 24 years and am not familiar with phenomena. Can you perhaps be talking about pneumonia? Pneumonia is a very common occurence in a nursing homes. . . . .especially for those residents who are bedridden. I don't know the circumstances behind while your friend was there or what the nursing home's policies are for illnesses however if she were having symptoms which would include a cough and high fever to name a couple then her doctor should be alerted. Lot's of physicians have PA's or Nurs Practitioners who go to nursing homes to see patients who are sick instead of having to arrange for someone to take her. Different states have different rules about employees of nursing homes taking residents anywhere however many of them offer transportation. Was your friend so disabled that she did not know she was that sick? Where is her family and did they not check on her regularly? There are way too many variables for one to be able to tell if it was the nursing homes fault she died or not. If she was having symptoms and the nursing home did not report these to her family and or physician then they could indeed have been negligent.
