Have you had an endoscopy? Please tell me about it.?

I'm scheduled for one on Monday. I know I'll be having anesthesia and probably won't remember anything about it, but I'm a little nervous just the same. Are there any after-effects? Sore throat? Do they put the tube through your mouth or down through your nose? Also, can the doctor tell you much in the way of results right away, or do you have to wait for biopsy results? (I'm being checked for a malabsorption disorder/possible celiac disease.)

I had one and I was scared to death but I didn't feel anything or remember anything. The last thing I remember was the anesthesiologist injecting the versed into my IV, a warm tingling feeling that moved up my arm and then I was out. I woke up in the recovery area and they gave me something to drink. I got my results immediately, I'm not sure if you will or not since they're testing you for different things. You may have a little bit of a sore throat, I didn't but some people do. I felt really good afterwards and actually ate burger king. Don't worry, you'll be absolutely fine!

You wont feel a thing I did not have any discomforts at all went back to work the next day just felt a little woozy afterwords so take a driver with you.And they put the tube down your mouth but you'll be asleep with general anesthesia

Its an easy procedure. No after effects and you generally don't feel a thing. They give you results immediately if they don't take any samples for biopsy. If they find something that they want to look at it takes however long is required. It depends on how busy the lab is etc. They usually don't make you wait too long. 24 hrs is typical. and yes the tube goes down your throat. amazing that there is no gag reflex or anyghing like that. Don't worry. The dentist is a lot worse.

Yes, I've had an endoscopy. You won't remember much of anything. They put the tube down your throat and your doctor will be able to tell you what he saw but the biopsy results take a while. You may have a scratchy throat, but not really sore. So don't worry about this procedure, it happens, you wake up, you go home and if anything is wrong your doctor will call you. You should make a follow up appointment as you'll probably be groggy and won't remember much of what your doc says. It's a piece of cake test!
