Good remedies for obsessive compulsive disorder?

I have OCD pretty bad-- I blow my nose every time I feel like there's something in it, I shower every day sometimes twice if I feel dirty, I apply lip balm when I fear my lips are chapped, and more. I'm currently taking Zoloft, which is helping a bit, but gives me heart burn for some reason. Is this normal? I also worry a lot about random things and it's getting me really stressed and even a little depressed because I have trouble expressing my feelings. Does anyone have any words of wisdom?

Try to find a psychologist who practices behaviour therapy. You might still need medication but behaviour therapy shows you how to gain control over your compulsions. It's usually shorter and very often more effective than classical psychoanalysis. It helped me coping with panic attacks, generalized anxiety syndrom and phobia. It is also recommended for patients with obsessive compulsive disorder.
All the best luck!

Behavioral therapy. There are also drugs available to mitigate the symptoms. However, there is no 'cure' for OCD. What you have to do is learn coping mechanisms.

OCD treatment requires expert medical help - not the kind you will get here - so make an appointment with a specialist in this disorder, not just a general doctor.

I am on Zoloft, and I never heard of heartburn nor do I get it. Do not believe the hype as their is no cure. As they are technically correct, what you can do is do more than cope. You can fight it. I have been doing that my whole life and while I still have parts of it that creep in, I am able to do okay. email me if you need to talk about it.

Whatever you do..do not take Effexor. While it has helped tremendously, the side effects and addiction is not worth it.
