Non-small-cell lung cancer HELP?

I got a report that a friends cancer is shrinking, but is more dense? what does this mean?

Doctors tend to measure response to treatments by size alone; however, sometimes tumors don't shrink but become less dense, which may also be evidence of a response. When a tumor shrinks but becomes more dense, it is a slight quandry, but most physicians will see this as evidence of a response to treatment (barring growth of tumors elsewhere).
