What is the life expectancy for patients diagnosed with Non small cell lung cancer stage 4?

bad advice brad!! stage 4 is not a death sentence many have recovered and lived 10 or more years. Never give up!!!

Anytime with stage 4 cancer there is a short life expectancy. With it being stage 4 it has gone from the lungs to the rest of the body so it can be anywhere from hours to 2 months or so. The worst thing that could be done is having them go though with chemo because it will make them severally weak and it will destroy some of the cancer but not enough to make a impact. Most the chemo will do is add a month or two to the life expectancy.

There are always exceptions to every rule and cancer can be very different from one person to another. Stage 4 is serious but they are making advances ever day. Have you checked out getting in a clinical trial? What does the patient's doctor recommend? No one can tell you for sure how long anyone has got. They can just tell you how the majority runs. Don't ever give up hope!

Unfortunately non-small cell lung cancer doesn't have many treatments. I don't know what the exact life expectancy is. Sometimes patients can surprise their doctors, too.

The best thing for someone with this type of cancer to do if they wanted to go through treatment would probably be able to get into a clinical trial at MD Anderson or Sloan Kettering or one of the other major cancer centers for hopes of getting a new treatment that isn't available to the public yet.

Best to you

Unfortunately it is not good. My husband was diagnosed March 20th 2006. He went thru chemo radiation gamma knife procedure and took a drug called tarceva. It is very expensive but has had good results. Ask the doctor about it. Sadly my love passed away June 6th 2006. Good luck. Hope this helps. Please ask about the tarceva. It is worth a try.
