How will my dad die?

my dad has advanced lung cancer (non small cell) which isas big as his lung and now may enter throat.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Anyway death is not in our hands, and it happens when it has to. Don't bother about it. Just hope for the best and think that what's good for your dad will happen to him. Be with him as long as you can and you have to give him the strength. Stop worrying about useless things like how he'll die or when he'll die.

I worked in the medical field for 20 years and I believe Lung Cancer is one of the worst> I hope your father doesn't have to suffer too much. They usually will have him on 02 and heavy meds at the last.

spend quality time with him and tell him how much you love him.
it is these memories that will comfort you if and when he passes.
but the lord has a say in everything and remission is possible.

I've seen this many times. Pain should be controllable.
Usually people become weaker and weaker eventually becoming confined to bed. Most are not aware of the last stages - - they seem to be asleep most of the time.
Breathing may become irregular and difficult, but it is often more difficult for the family to watch than for the patient as they are usually unaware at that point.
On five occasions (out of several hundred lung cancer deaths), I have seen someone suddenly bleed as the cancer erodes a blood vessel, but this is not common.

He should have supportive / comfort measures via hospice nurses if he is not in the hospital at the end. They can help with symptom control and keep him as comfortable as possible. You can usually see the decline and tell fairly well when the end is near. Experienced medical personnel who are seeing your dad and have seen this type of disease many times can give you some guesses, but no one knows precisely how long for anyone.
Be sure to take care of yourself and seek the mutual support of other family members in this difficult time.

My Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer nearly 2 years ago and he was given a prognosis of 3 years.

Now he has had treatment and testing and they say he may even last for another 10 years.

Cancer is such an unpredictable illness you never know what may happen. Just enjoy the time that you have left with him.
