What prescription and non prescription drugs interact negatively with grapefruit juice?

Prescription drugs that I am interested in the interaction are prinyvil for blood pressure, zocor for cholesterol, niacin 500 mg (non prescription) and metoprolol for heart beat regulation.

All drugs that inhibit or need the P450 enzyme for metabolism.

What comes first to my mind are birth control pills, and the zocor most certainly (if I remember right, zocor is a P450 inhibitor).

A pharmacist will have the complete list.

However, bad interactions have been observed only for people who drank a lot of grapefruit juice (1L + per day), during several days). So if you are moderate, there shouldn't be any problem.

I think lipitor for cholesterol so I'm sure your cholesterol med will also interfere. Don't think blood pressure pills would cause problems, but I would call your pharmacist, they can tell you all about it.

do not take any pills with grapefruit juice. allow two hours after taking pills and you can drink grapefruit juice without any interaction with the drugs.

i take zocor in the evening and enjoy ocassional grapefruit in the morning-no problem
