Why is there an increase in LDH with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma? Pathophysiology?

Sorry, I am not able to find anything that disucsses 'why' it rises. Just that it does.

Some comments I have seen suggest that it is connected with other things ('not independant') but does not suggest a cause.

Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is used for the assessment of tissue breakdown in general, such as in hemolysis. It is also used to follow-up cancer (especially lymphoma) patients, as cancer cells have a high rate of turnover with destroyed cells leading to an elevated LDH activity.

Lactate dehydrogenase. One of a group of enzymes found in the blood and other body tissues, and involved in energy production in cells. An increased amount in the blood may be a sign of tissue damage and some types of cancer or other diseases. Also called lactic acid dehydrogenase and lactate dehydrogenase.

It rises if cancer is active (some, not all) and when it drops, its a sign chemo is effective. It is not the only tool, but one of many used to follow cancer treatments.
