Nicotine Patches for Depression?

Recent studies have shown that nicotine patches/gum can help relieve the symptoms of people suffering with depression and/or anxiety in non-smokers. Has anybody else tried this? Does anybody have any information regarding this subject?

Yes this is true, actually Duke University did a study and found that people smoking or using a patch etc. had improvement in symptoms of depression..

The down side to this is simple.. Smoking is the #1 preventable cause of death and disability in America.. So the Doctors are not about to just rush out and order you to smoke or take nicotine patches because you are depressed..

It is common for Dr.'s to prescribe drugs like wellbutrin to people that are quitting smoking because they have depression like symptoms when trying to quit smoking.

So to answer your question, it does help.. but no one is going to be prescribed patches or smokes by a Dr.

where do you think nicotine comes from? I was referring to BOTH the patch and the cigg... and while it is TRUE that carbon monoxide and tar enter your lungs through smoking, PATCHES put nicotine in your system.. Report It

never really thought about it.....i guess it could work

WOW, really! Is this true?
So............ if i carry on smoking while i'm use patches, will i cheer up?lol Sorry i'm trying to give up while using patches but i've had a real bad few days & feeling abit down i need something to help me cheer up!
Is this when i should say 'No one try this at home!'

haha yeah that's a lie.
they just want to make money off of you.

nicotine is a depressant. you get hooked.
your brain chemicals imbalance
causes you to get in a bad mood
when you are craving it again.

I don't think this is true.
