Nicotine patches-has anyone who has tried them help me with the following questions?

even though your still getting the nicotine will your skin etc look better?-did u still get out of breathe easy?is it the tar in fags rather than the nicotine that causes these problems thanx in advance

I'll try to address all of your questions but am not quite sure what you mean by your skin looking better. From having smoked many years? Or the rash you can sometimes get from the patches? Whether any aging effect will disappear is beyond me. But if it is a rash, try putting it on a different spot each time to reduce any irritation.
Being out of breath is from lung damage. It may clear up some, depending upon your diagnosis. I have no way of knowing what your diagnosis may be. But quitting certainly won't make it any worse. It is possible that with time the damage may reverse itself. And your assumption is correct. It is the tar in the fags that causes respiratory problems. Nicotine is the addiction. That and the act of smoking itself. It is enormously difficult to stop something you've been doing for years. Half the time I'm not even conscious of lighting up, it seems so unnatural not to smoke. I wish you every success and hope you get better.

I tried patches and affected me adversely.
Could not breathe properly till I removed them
However everybody is different
I hope they help you

I used patches-they took away some of the craving but you still need willpower, they also made my arm go red and feel heavy. I did stop smoking though-so I say try them, if they're not for you then at least you will know. GOOD LUCK

The nicotine gets you hooked and the tar rots your lungs. Yes your skin will look better and you will be able to start breathing like normal. But be careful not to get addicted to the patch!

skin will get better , you will feel better in breathing , It is the combination of both drugs are responsible for you feeling like this. You need to define whether you want the drug (nicotine and tar) to dominate your whole life. Or you can have a smoke free life. Think about the money you can save , and think about your clothes , they really smell too, and your teeth will turn yellow as well as your lungs deteriorating , now i know which i prefer . I know because i used to be ex-smoker 30 a day...

I thought the patches were great. it took the edge of giving up the ciggies, first thing to improve is your skin, its noticeable after a few weeks, you loose that sallow look ,and a few wrinkles disappear, especially around your lips.I find i can breathe more easy and i don't have that knot in my chest when breathing in. the tar is what blocks your arteries. good luck and keep going it gets better and you look and feel great as the days go by.

the patches did not help me at all. Btw the nicotine itself though highly addictive doesnt do the harm, it's all the tar and other carcinogens that do the damage to your lungs and health. For a while the inhalators staved off a massive craving for a smoke but also made my mouth very sore, was told it gets better but it didnt. Of all the stuff i've tried though they were the most effective because it still gave you the hand to mouth movement and psychologically found that was satisfying. With the other things i didnt know what to do with my hands, silly as it sounds. Good luck anyway.

Gosh after reading the ans on this page, I wanna quit smoking too. I gave you all stars. Thanks for writing, and maybe I'll have the willpower as well.

With the patches you are getting the nicotine without the other chemicals.Nicotine still inhibits oxygen to the blood and so is not good for the skin.I gave up once on patches and my skin did not look any better.I then became hooked on the patches and eventually after 5 months went back on the fags.I did not notice much difference in my breathing although there may have been some improvement.I found the nicotine in the patches quite powerful and was told by a nurse that nicotine is a very dangerous substance that can cause heart attacks and strokes and that is why you should not stay on the patches for long.I have now gone cold turkey(2 weeks)and can already see an improvement in my skin and breathing.

i started using the patches 3 weeks ago nearly and a friend of mine said my skin did look better, i definitely feel better mostly in the morning, i also had an idea of a cigarette jar, the money i would spend on ciggies every day now goes in a jar towards a holiday for me and my children.
good luck if you are giving them a go

my best friend tried them and if anything he got more addicted they dont work at all take my word PLEASE
if i were u i would get filters and or try light cigarettes

Tried them..fell off the wagon. However if you couple them with some good willpower they are terrific! everything does improve...and you have more money. Good luck! I think the tar and actual smoke is the cause of most health and appearance issues.
