Nicotine Patches!!! Please Help!!!!!!!!!?

Hi, my dad is constantly a smoker, and has been for as long as I remember. He is really trying to quit, but just can't! He bought the nicotine patches, but I guess forgot about them and never tried it. I don't think he knows even how to put them on. He is 46 years old.
I have a couple of questions for those of you who have tried the nicotine patches.
1. Where do you put them?
2. How many do you put on a day?
3. Does it hurt?
4. And, finally DOES IT WORK!!!
please answer my questions as soon as possible. tell me all about them, if no one will help my dad, I will!
Thanks for your time and help!!

i've used the patches for quite some time now and they Do work.. here's the answers to your questions
1. any place on your upper body, but mostly on your arms just below the shoulder.
2. nicotine patches are made to be worn 24 hours at a time. after 24 hours you put another one on.

3. it doesn't hurt. it only itches for the first 10 minutes but its not so bad..

A lil information about them what happens is the patches have nicotine polarex and its placed and absorbed on the skin.. since your skin breathes it absorbes the nicotine within seconds. there are 3 stages.. the first is 21 mg which is equivilent to a pack of cigarettes a day..after 2 weeks of using the 21 mg.. you drop down to 14mg for another 2 weeks.. after that the third and last stage is the 7 mg. for 2 weeks.. but you have to keep the patches on at all times 24/7 for 6 weeks.. and what it does it weens you off of the nicotine slowly. once your body gets used to it.. i hope this was of some help:D Good luck with your dad:D

most people put the patches on their upper arm, so its not noticeable.
wear one a day(it think)
it does not hurt
i didn't seem to work for my dad but i know it helped others.
good luck

You put them on the upper part of your body. a hairless place is best. I put them on my upper arm. You put one on a day. If he waked up and smoke at night, than wear it 24 hrs. if not than take off when going to bed and put back on when you awake. NO it does not hurt. It might itch, but thats about it. Does it work..YES. i have not had a cig since last tuesday. I really do think they work so well. I do not even crave a cig. I would recomend it.

I've used the patch to quit smoking and it does work. You have to want to guit. They do not hurt. I put them on my arms and back shoulder area. You only use one a day. Some people can't sleep with them on and should take them off before bed and right back on in the morning upon raising. I've heard that people have gotten sick from doing the patch and continuing to smoke. Very bad thing to do.
I hope this is helpful. It sounds like your Dad will have a cheering section and support. Good for you.

1.I put them on my shoulder
2.1 patch a day,off at night(I don'tsmoke when you sleep, plus they give me intence dreams)
3.it tingles a bit,but no it doesn't
4.I guess so,haven't smoked since 12/24/06,,,,,but I'M still getting nicotine thru the patch,,,but did skip a day and didn't smoke or want to,,
