Nicotine and alcohol?

nicotine and alcohol are we slowly but surely but slowly killing ourselves

With alcohol it isn't necessarily too slowly, look at all the deaths related to drunk driving. You are right though, some of us must truly have a death wish to even start smoking or drinking.

Gotta die from something

All extremes are bad. If one drinks too much alcohol and is a chain smoker, then he is providing himself with a dead bead...early. If one does not do any of the two ...then they are a dead vegetable already who dont know how to live. I'd say....a little nicotine and a glass of wine a day or drinks during the weekend..without getting too drunk is a good mixture for life. Then again, car fumes etc.. are killing us as well...we are here on a journey and we will die some day.

Cigarettes are the most stupid, expensive (in comparison) nauseous habit there is. At least with alcohol you get a buzz, and in moderation is good for you, specially in Red Wine. Tobacco is just disgusting and a sure killer.

of course, you do all realize that the figures that everyone toutes for smoking deaths are more or less statistical conveniences right? They rarely dig too deep into genetics, or other causal effects that might affect an individuals chances of developing cancer. No doubt because the money coming from pharmaceutical companies is a nice big influence on these researchers and organizations. That isn't to say that smoking doesn't cause harm, but it isn't the big ugly menace everyone likes to make of it. How about inner city crime, or obesity or a host of other problems that kill more people but we pay no attention to them because that would put fast food, or the DEA or some other group out of business that require these social ills to provide them with a reason to exist... why does no one seem to care about these issues as much?
