What are the negative effects of consuming >500mg niacin per day in supplements? |
I take normal multivitamins that give me the full RDA of B vitamins. However, a friend was insisting that it was good to take additional niacin supplements (500mg Jameson Labs supps), but I disagree. Who's right? The niacin flush is the biggest side effect I can think of. Niacin is a vasodilator. It opens up our veins and arteries. So this amount will make you red and feel hot. It won't kill you but many people, myself included don't like the feeling. It will also make you sweat. |
