Neuropathy - Chiropractor??

I went to several doctors and the neurologist put me on Neurotin but told me he had no idea what I have. Neurotin only helps symptoms but it has lots of side effects. I'm going to try the chiropractor since everything else has been ruled out (diabetes, etc). Wondered if anyone had tried a chiropractor for their neuropathy and if they were able to get any help.

Had MRI of the thoracic and lumbar - all negative. The chiropractor took x-rays, some kind of nerve/muscle test and checked all my reflexes. Will see him again on Wednesday to get results. I'm a little afraid of manipulation but I'm always afraid of continued nerve damage if I don't get some relief. I went off the Neurotin because it was causing me too many side effects which were worse than the tingling/burning, etc.

Chiropractic helps when mis-alignments of the spine are causing problems with the messages being sent along the nerves. (I'm not a chiropractor and problaly explaining that slightly wrong - chiropractors reading thsi may be cringing at my explanation) If this ends up being your problem then chiropractic could help. Chiropractic does not cure cancer or stop infections, etc. so there is a chance it may not help, depending on what is actually wrong with you.

When in doubt, I try my chirorpactor. If you have a good one, like I do, if she recognizes my problem is something she can't help with, she refers me to my doctor. The dumb family doctor, on the other hand, does not refer me to the chiropractor, even when that is the best way to fix the problem. So I start with the chiropractor and go from there. There's no harm in it.

My father-in-law has peripheral neuropathy that is caused by diabetes it turns out.

What works is a diabetic diet and exercise. Neurontin is nasty stuff. He was heavy on that, among other things, and it started to create psychosis-like symptoms.

A chiropractor may be able to easy discomfort, but that's about it. You should check to see if you are diabetic.

After that, see if the cause can be addressed. Indeed, if it's diabetes, then diet and exercise are first on the list to address. After that, diabetic medication and pills like Neurontin are the usual.
However!! If it's something else, you will want to look at what it is, why it is, and how much of it you can or wish to live with. Sometimes it's better to just deal with what you have without the meds.
Think hard before you go the RX route, because as you have already sensed, side effects can doink your life just as much as the -pathy can!
Consider visiting a local university's pain clinic/anesthesiology clinic/neurologist clinic in order to get more answers, more options.
Sometimes the occasional medicine, along with a lifestyle change, meditation and acceptance of your challenge can help you a lot more than popping whatever the pill of the moment may be.

Caution, caution, and look far and wide for answers.
