Anyone know anything about Neuropathy Pain?

Hi I was just diagnosed with neuropathy in my wrist. I have to go for an emg which wont be for few weeks and I was wondering if anyone knew anything other than over the counter ibuprofen to take to ease the pain when I move it. Also anyone out there with neuropathy? And anyone gone for an emg...does it hurt?

Hi,

While I must admit that I shy away from responding to medical-type questions....don't worry!!! :) Really.

It's a very small electrode that is used to measure the electical activity of where it hurts so that they can figure out what's wrong and how to treat it. There is Very little pain...more like a bit of discomfort. And remember, they're doing it in an attempt to help you so that you don't have to suffer with this any longer...hopefully! :)

Here's a quick summary of what happens (and why) for you...hope it helps to ease your mind but truly, don't worry about it hurting because it's a lot less than getting a needle for freezing at the dentist, if you've ever had that.

After placement of the electrodes, you may be asked to contract the muscle (for example, by bending your arm). The presence, size, and shape of the wave form -- the action potential -- produced on the oscilloscope provide information about the ability of the muscle to respond when the nerves are stimulated.

All the best and good luck!! :)

If what I offered helps you even a little with the procedure...I'm thrilled!!! You'll be fine and bet you end up leaving after the emg thinking 'what was I so worried about? It was really nothing..'

All the best :) Report It

I have heard ibuprofen will help, try it and see!

yes i have lower lumbar due to a spinal fracture. the emg measures your reflex's with a electrical stimulation, no it doesn't hurt, you may experience a tightness in you muscles but not bad, the best thing over the counter for me is Advil, Tylenol also makes a good arthritis med for relaxation, stay away from prescription pain killers they can kill you, good luck

Take a B50 complex daily and 300-600 mg of lipoic acid. Monavie juice sometimes helps with pain.

Yes, the EMG will hurt. They insert a very small needle into the area, and then ask you to stimulate the muscle. Then they will move the needle around a little and it is quite painful at that point. Luckily, it doesn't last for more than a few seconds!! Good luck
