Multiple Sclerosis and neurofibromatosis?

i have neurofibromatosis and showing signs of ms could these be both related as there both to do with the nervous system

At NO POINT during my consultations have they ever mentioned MS and I hope they never do. We have enough to contend with!!

I do however, get the odd bout of pins and needles

Neurofibromatosis and MS are only related because they both involve nerves. Otherwise they are not related.

However, neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder in which tumors can grow along certain types of nerves (and other body tissue). MS is an autoimmune disease which causes the immune system to attack Central Nervous System nerve cells, demyelinating them and causing plaques, or scleroses, to form.

Some of the symptoms occur in both diseases (such as balance problems, vertigo and facial weakness/paralysis) which may cause some confusion, but the disease course, triggers (as far as we know), and signs are different.

New cases of sufferers of neurofibromatosis are showing with MS all time .. but scientific evidence has yet to reveal any connection...
