I would like to know the about NEUROBLASTOMA stage 4, chemo is d only treatment for my son, help us-Philippine

I have a 4 year old son, radiotheraphy and surgery as a treatment will do him harm or danger, Hes now on his 8th chemo, the doctor changed protocol of his chemo, dosage is increasing, but still my son is fighting the disease. Friends gave us information about NEUROBLASTOMA, and I would like to know if there is a new treatment from THE CANCER INSTITUT, thank you, and God Bless

Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid cancer in infancy and childhood. It is a neuroendocrine tumor, arising from any neural crest element of the sympathetic nervous system.Other tumors also have similar origins and show a wide pattern of differentiation ranging from benign ganglioneuroma to partially differentiated ganglioneuroblastoma to highly malignant neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is one of the rare human malignancies known to demonstrate spontaneous regression from an undifferentiated state to a completely benign cellular appearance.

Antibody to neuron specific enolase can differentiate neuroblastoma from lymphoma, Ewing's sarcoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma. Also rosette patterns in a highly cellular tumor, is an additional characteristic of neuroblastoma. Moreover, neuroblastoma is the only solid tumor which rarely metastasizes in the lungs.

Treatment-
Since this type of cancer is associated with nervous system surgery and radtion is not possible as it will affect the whole system. Only possible method of treatment is Chemotheraphy. in midle to high doses. When the lesion is localized, it is generally curable. However, long-term survival for children with advanced disease is poor despite aggressive multimodality therapy.

Recent biologic and genetic characteristics have been identified, which, when added to classic clinical staging, has allowed accurate patient assignment to risk groups so that treatment strategies can be more effectively undertaken. After it is declared that the disease is gone, it often comes back.

Have faith on your Oncologyst and he will take care and give proper treatment as
CANCER IS STILL AN ENIGMA.

GOD BLESS YOUR SON. OUR BEST WISHES FOR HIS SPEEDY RECOVERY.

Im sorry I have no info for you, but your question touched my heart as my nephew was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma stage 2 three years ago, He is healthy now, and I just wanted to say, God bless your family and your child!
