Can a person go into withdrawals by suddenly stopping lortab after taking it continuously for 5 years? |
i moved from nashville to fayetteville nc suddenly because my wife "suggested" in no uncertain terms for me to leave or she would file for divorce. so i left and went to a doctor in nc and his pc wrote me a prescription because i showed him my tests, a mylegram, that showed i really was in need of my meds. i ran out and went back and saw the doctor and he said he would refer me to a pain management dr. and he then wrote a script for 20 days. i never heard from the paain mangement for 2 weeks so i called dr furgenson again. they had not made the referral. i finally got the pain dr. referral for dec 6. but i ran out of meds nov 29. i called furgenson on nov 29 and he refused to fill my script so i have no meds until dec 6 . so does anyone know if i could go into withdrawals and would this be considered malpractice. my mylegram clearly showed i have a bulging disc and a pinced nerve along with degenerative facet disease from lumbar 1-5. YES, most definitely YES. What you need to do is either keep taking the meds and wean yourself off them, or find a clinic that treats opiod/narcotic dependence nearby. You probably already start to feel your skin crawling a little bit or your eyes watering. After about a day or so of not having them... you will be extremely uncomfortable. This is not malpractice. I'm sorry, but you are lucky to have gotten pain meds for that long without having to see a pain management doctor. I'm sure your doctors have warned you about the dependence. If not, then you can read about it with the pamphlet that pharmacies include with your meds or on the bottle. If you are in Fayetteville, NC then you need to go online and find someone who can help you. I have a spine disease and was on Lortab for about 9 months straight. . when I wanted to get off I went into some serious withdrawals. I found a psychiatrist in the area who treated it. He gave me medicine (Suboxone/Subutex) as soon as I sat down that eliminated the withdrawal symptoms so I could wean myself off without being miserable. I am SOOOOO thankful that I did the research and found him. I am in the middle of a flare up with my disease now, so I am on a pain patch. It's easier to control your dose and you don't have to take meds every 4 hours. You can email me if you want me to help you. I'm sure my doc would treat you. I'm from Memphis, TN...he treats people from all over. Please feel free to email me b/c I know what you are going through. It's tough to really be sick and need the meds, but be so addicted that you can't go without them for more than a day or so. Good luck. I doubt it is malpractice...but you could go through some kind of withdrawls...so whatch out for that. this same thing happened to my boyfriend, he just went to the ER and had surgery the next day to remove the disc. the hospital has to treat your pain...its the 5th vital sign now you know.... Yes, you can definitely have withdrawl symptoms from stopping Lortab. It is very uncomfortable, but I don't think people generally die from it. This would not be considered malpractice. Call your original doctor's office back again and tell them, again, that you have the pain management appt on Dec 6 and just want enough med to last til then. I know you are in pain and probably irritable from lack of meds but try to be nice, you will get farther with them that way. Good luck. Yes, you will certainly get withdrawals, without a doubt. No, no malpractise. Withdrawal is not considered an issue and I CERTAINLY would not tell this to your new pain doctor. Do not tell them about W/D! at all, even if you get it bad. And in your case, this is called "breakthrough" you never withdraw, than you might look like an addict, you cannot give opiates to an addict, but it OK to have breakthrough pain in pain mang, which is withdrawal. Eat the idea you are going to be without meds, trust me they might think you are a nut or something. Or have a serious problem , even though we know withdrawal is inevitable. EAT IT! If you took them as precribed for years, not an issue mental, it is not an issue not when your skin crawls, (MILD STUFF TRUST ME for amateurs)but when YOU cannot move at all and are completely satuarated in sweat, puking and every joint in your body is on fire and you just want to die! I don't think your that bad. If you withdraw, (or tell him, even if he see's it's mental) the doctor might not make the ref, and send you to a methadone/sub dr. clinic, it can happen! I been there. Pain person for years. The'll might think you have a problem with them! Yes! It will SUCK! Go to the ER or urgent care and tell them you threw your back out and can hardly walk. Don't add other symptoms, just bad back pain. They will give you pain killers, enough to last until your appt. |
